If it produces altruism, compassion, inner peace, fulfillment.

When it causes me to think of others first before myself, when I do more service to humanity, when I experience more Divine Love, when I cry for God more, when I experience God's Grace more often, and when it gives me more inner peace.

I think those things are positives, however, they can be produced without religion. The sign of truly knowing God is that you think of others before yourself and realize that this world does not revolve around you but there is a bigger purpose for youself and everyone else.
Living each day to accomplish God's will.

Since there are many religions, most of them are working to keep you from knowing the Truth, because of being instruments of Satan, then there would be the True religion that would be working to teach you truth of God's word the Bible.

Does your religion teach that the soul does not die?
False Religion...TOLERATES IMMORAL SEX: Church groups ordain gay and lesbian members of the clergy. What, though, does the Bible teach? It plainly states: “Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men.” 1 Cor. 6:9,10 Do you know of religions that condone immoral sex?
How to identify true religion.
True Religion...PRACTICES LOVE: True worshippers are “no part of the world,” are not divided by race or culture, and display “love among themselves.” Rather than killing one another, they are willing to die for one another.
True Religion...TRUSTS GOD'S WORD: Instead of teaching “tradition” and “commands of men as doctrines,” true religion bases its doctrine on God's Word, the Bible
True Religion...STRENGTHENS FAMILIES AND UPHOLDS HIGH MORAL STANDARDS: True religion trains husbands to “love their wives as their own bodies,” helps wives to develop “deep respect for their husbands,” and teaches children to “be obedient to their parents.”
And you are right, it should produce altruism, compassion, inner peace, fulfillment.

In individuals I believe it produces what you have listed but in the wider scene it in fact produces dissension, war, genocide and arrogance , and the world would be a better place without it. One day it will be if we don't wipe ourselves out before we get there.

That the religion is in Unity with one another, Not killing people on one side of the world and being the friendliest on the other side of the world, it's being a hypocrit. If the people are in unity, (me being a christian and believing in the bible), they are following whats written in John 17:21,22:"in order that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in union with me and I am in union with you, that they also may be in union with us, in order that the world may believe that you sent me forth. 22Â Also, I have given them the glory that you have given me, in order that they may be one just as we are one"

I would add that it (and its members) contributes over all to humanity on a continus basis, and that humanity is better of because if its existence.
