I asked for The All-American Rejects Move Along CD for Christmas. My aunt won't buy it for me, because she doesn't like the name (All-American REJECTS). And now she has convinced my parents too! How do I convince them all that just because they have a bad name, doesn't mean they make bad music??? HELP!!! I really want that CD!

Kimmy, I have a 14-year-old daughter who wants music by all of these bands with disturbing (to parents) names too. Please understand that they just don't want you to be influenced by music that might change your perspective on the world. You don't say how old you are, but my guess is young. You may be able to convince them by getting them to listen online to see if they approve of the lyrics and content. If they don't, try to understand. They love you and want the best for you. You may be too young to understand the content and how damaging it can be to a young mind's outlook. Merry Christmas anyway!

No one has to buy you anything for Christmas. Accept whatever they give you and be gracious. If you are lucky, someone will either give you money or a gift you can return, and then you can buy it for yourself. If not, offer to do chores and make the money for the CD.

Parents have always had problem with the music their children listened to (Beethoven was viewed as seditious and of inciting passions in the young).

Well are your parents this closed minded? My boys listen to all sorts of things, oh there is one group that made me laugh, gorillas or something. I thought oh brother, then I watched some of there videos one of my boy has lol!

Do you listen to music in your room? Do you listen to music with your parents? If so do what my kid did, he put on the music on the computer and said mom listen....and watch.
Not all of the kids music I like but putting a kid down for there music is not cool. Good thing my parents did not do that to me!

At Walmart my oldest teen showed me you can listen to music CD's to see if you like them, can you do something like this? Or mention to your parents it is there? Depending on your age, bring up some rockers or whatever kind of music your folks were into when they were young! Every generation has someone, look at Elvis Presley with his shaking bootee lol! Jerry Lee Lewis there are others lol!
My day it was the Sundowners with the Rodeo song lol! Well they did have a reason with that song lol!! It curses a lot! Or Grateful Deads Panama Red lol!
Good luck, best way with parents is the truth! Works for my kids...

What a silly reason not to get someone a CD. Find the music of their youth and ask them if they all had explicitly kosher names. Or, yanno, act as mature as possible. Help with chores around the house, be respectful. You'd be amazed how nice your parents can be to you when you're obedient.

Remind your parents that the title of a CD is meant to be catchy so it 'catches' your attention. It really doesn't express the music on the CD. Then remind them that they bought "Bat out of Hell" from Meatloaf and "Tattoo You" from the Rolling Stones. Or you can mention a AC/DC album they bought. Its worth a try.

Stop "whineing", you will get enough "cash" over Christmas you can go "buy" it yourself. The more you whin and make a fuss, the less your chances, better to just leave it for now, and take my advise. This is your Grandmother talking, so listen. Santa will bring you something even nicer and bigger!

Is there a way for you to have your parents listen to the music prior to requesting the CD? That may change their minds....if the music isn't all that bad...why would they object?

Instead of asing for the actual CD, you should ask for a gift card to your favorite music store.

lol this is funny but i think you should let your parents listen to a song so that they see that nothing is wrong with the group. Also Just try telling them that their a really good group and the name is just that "a name"
