CO2 is 30% higher than it has been for 650,000 years. Methane is 130% greater. These are two of the main pollutants humans put into the atmosphere in excess, and they are two of the primary greenhouse gases.
Look at the 'hockeystick', which shows a dramatic warming since 1950 after a fairly stable climate for 1000 years. In fact, the 10 hottest years in recorded history have all happened since 1990, with 2005 being the hottest.
(see links below)
How's that for proof of man's fault in this? There is ample proof, any real scientist will tell you that.
There has NEVER been an article doubting man's influence on global warming published in a peer-reviewed journal. A recent study of almost 1000 proved that.
Yes, the earth naturally heats and cools, but the rate and amount we are warming now is unprecedented in the recent geologic past. We are doing this, and we must stop it. This is not some political statement or rhetoric. This is science trying to educate a crass, ignorant public of the damage they are doing. The magnitude of temperature increase ALREADY is about 10x that of the 'little ice age' of the middle ages, and rate and amount are only going up.
Just to be clear, glacial and interglacial cycles are mainly controlled by astronomical fluctuations, but we have a detailed record of the last 7 cycles, and what the climate and CO2 is doing now is way different and extreme. The rate of increase is much higher than in the past AND the value itself is much higher.

Global warming is caused by CO2 build up in the Atmosphere. There is always some level of Global Warming as some heat is trapped from the heat of the sun.
The current issue is the build up of man made CO2 in the Atmosphere and that traps more than is natural. This leads to the average temperature heating up.
The Critics will tell you that other parts of the Arctic and Antarctica are growing, but both have lost total ice mass. Last year Greenland permanently lost 52 miles of ice. In the Arctic the amount ice mass that had 3 ft or grater of sea ice area has dropped 15% in the last 25 years.
Of the top 1,000 glaciers in the world 997 are receding.

There are many solution that you can help with. The most important thing is to reduce the amount of fossil fuel based activities you produce. more efficient light bulbs, better mileage cars, turn off lights, don't drive as much. You can also work on things that breakdown CO2 - plant a tree.
Good luck and let me know if you would like more information.

Okay here's a whole bunch of random information - hope some of it helps. There is this company that sells to energy company's this plan that reduces emissions. GreenFuel. Wal-mart has pledged to lower emissions as being the largest corporate consumer of energy. The greenfuel has a proposition for replacing gasoline with both biodiesel and ethnol (sorry bad speller) by processing algae that is used in the filtration into fuel. Serving 2 purposes. Buy from local markets, replace old appiances or get energy saving modifications for current one. Rolling stone last month had some information on global warm - really they have something environment about every month. An inconvient truth was good. Global warm is a result of CO2 not allowing solar energy to escape our atmosphere, instead acting like a mirror. This energy heats the planet every time it bounces off it. More CO2 by fossile fuels burning and overpopulation means more rays are trapped - which rises the global temperature of the planet. Earth's atmosphere is unique in which its gases and propotion of gases allow it to sustain a temperate climate - which is why life can exist on it. We have been altering this equation - without knowledge of when it will either lose the ablitiy to sustain life or try to by drastic measures rebalance itself. Al Gore's an inconvient truth is a GREAT WATCH. There are lots of little steps from changing lightbulbs to shutting of lights when they are not being used. One thing is definate - there is not a memeber of the scientific community that disputes global warming.

Global warming is a myth, sorry to tell you that. When satellites measure the Earth's temperature, they get the same temperature. Remember, most people only observe a small area, and say that the whole world is warming up. Also, studies show that the world was significantly hotter 200 years ago!
While we may have an especially hot summer, someone else might be having an especially cold winter. So you have to measure the whole Earth's temperature.
Lastly, while some polar ice caps are melting, others are steadily growing! (They never mention that, do they? =)
I hope this helps!

Thank you Jay for writing a true response!!! I get so angry when people (like the first response to this question) give out junk science. Carbon monoxide and the ozone layer have NOTHING TO DO WITH GLOBAL WARMING!!! Read Jay's comment and check out the Union of Concerned Scientists website for excellent prediction models on the effects of global warming.
