There are people from different religions who choose not to watch movies or have a TV in their homes, and there are some Jehovah's Witnesses who choose not to watch movies or have TV. However, this is a personal choice, it is not a requirement for all of Jehovah's Witnesses. I do have to add though, that there are numerous studies that discuss the dangers of children viewing violent TV shows. And we all have to admit that TV can be a time waster. People in the US spend on average 4 1/2 hours a day watching TV. That means, by the age of 60, a person will have spent 10 years in front of the TV screen!! Just something to think about before you plop yourself down in front of the TV today. :)

In English, the name of the Almighty is "Jehovah". The religion that has almost single-handedly taught the planet about the personal name of God is the "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses". That name is often shortened to "Jehovah's Witnesses" or simply "Witnesses".
The vast majority of Jehovah's Witness parents allow their children to watch a wide range of movies.

I am a Jehovah Witness, I have a tv, a computer and a radio in my home. we don't go to movies because most of the movies are about sex or killing. many of the movies come to tv anyway, so why spend the money when you can see it on tv. we will not watch harry potter because that is witchcraft. many Jehovah Witnesses watch baseball and football on tv.

I totally agree with resolver, can i just say im a jehovahs witness, and its the fact that its unwholesome entertainment that would be displeasing to God, and unsuitable for our eyes. Movies in general are nice, however, its the what is contained in the movies, and really would you alllow a 10 yr old watch a adult rated movie, which they cannot understand. Can i say to RESOLVER that scripture in psalms is lovely...

Ok, obviously NOT true, I'm one of Jehovah's witnesses. I'm 21, and no where is it frowned upon to enjoy WHOLESOME entertainement.(notice the keyword). The only movies they would stop there kids from seeing is anything against bible principles. For example: a violent movie with bloodshed. Psalms 11:5: Jehovah himself examines the righteous one as well as the wicked one, And anyone loving violence His soul certainly hates"
So if a person enjoys violence (that includes a movie thats violent, because it is VIOLENT) his soul God certainly hates.

It all depends on the family. One of my best friends is a Jehovah's Witness and there is a lot of things that he can't do, but he can definitely watch television. It depends on how strict the parents are and if they are lenient with their rules or not.

My ex sister-in-law is a JW. She wouldn't let the children watch anything that had witches or magic in it such as The Wizard of Oz and she does not like Harry Potter.

They allow children to watch movies, but only Scripture-friendly flicks. Only movies that are completely God and Jesus centered or themed or supporting.
Witness children are told to avoid “worldly” magazines, movies, TV shows, music, etc. Any information critical of the Watch Tower is automatically evil and dangerous. Supposedly, JWs are allowed to watch movies and listen to music There are no set rules against it. The choice is personal. However, they rely on Bible principles in making an informed choice.

We are selective in the tv and movies we watch.
Some families may choose not to have tv's, and that is a matter of conscience.
The point being is would you invite murderer into your home?, Then why would you want to watch one?
