Typically, junk food is considered to be anything we consume that does not provide essential nutrients that are beneficial to our bodies. Instead, they are overly loaded with one or a few ingredients, that in excess, may harm our health, for example to much sugar, salt, saturated fat, additives, or preservatives. Since soda is nothing but sugar, dye, additives, some salt, & carbonated water, there is no health benefit attained by drinking it, therefore, it is considered junk. Tasty junk, but junk nontheless. Since i've never heard of a "junk liquid/drink" category, it can appropriately fit in the junk foods category.

Soda is Junk , but it is not considered a food. It is a beverage. We dont eat soda, we drink it. I would have to say NO. We dont have soda FOR dinner, we DRINK it with dinner.
Wikipedia does not discuss Junk Food regarding any beverage.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) also categorizes Soda in a diifferent category than junk Food.
Ex. Soda AND Junk food are bad for you.
Most searches on this topic show Soda and Junk Food separately categorized.
ex. School bans Soda and Junk Food.
Most definations give potatoe chips and other high calorie snacks as Junk food, but do not use soda.

Just because it is in liquid form doesn't mean it isn't food. If it is consumed it is considered a food. And soda is considered junk because of all the sugar content.

Yes, it's junk food (or junk drink, if you prefer). If it's not water, it's food in my books. Soda has a ton of simple sugar (or a ton of fake sweetener), lots of sodium, no fiber, no complex carbs, no good fats. It also does not hydrate you- the caffeine, the sugar and the sweeteners all dehydrate you. It's a textbook example of junk.

Yes soda is junk food. It has tons of sugar, food coloring, and the carbonation leeches calcium out of the body.

Yes because cola and other soft drinks are not considered healthy foods. They are foods that have no food value. For instance they have no vitamins or minerals that we require for a healthy diet.
