It says in the Bible, that the night Jesus was arrested, he was praying and was in great distress, and the Devil came to him and tempted him not to go through with it. Then it says that after Jesus was crucified, the Devil was glad and like, threw a party over his death. I don't get this. Could someone please explain it to me better so I'll understand?

"Then it says that after Jesus was crucified, the Devil was glad and like, threw a party over his death."

Um.. no it doesn't say that.

Well, this is my take on it. The Devil was always tempting Christ to move away from the path God had put him on - the Devil didn't want God's plan to go ahead. The plan was crucifixion and resurrection.

Satan rejoiced over his death, because Satan didn't yet understand that there would be a Resurrection - and it was with the Resurrection that the real miracle of Christ begins.

I hope that helps, you aren't being stupid, it's all really complicated! Is there anyone you trust who is a pastor or someone who has been studying the Bible for years, who could answer some questions for you? I'm sure they wouldn't mind, and they might have more education than I do about it.

Hi there. Just as an FYI, the Bible does not make any mention of the Devil trying to tempt Jesus the night he was arrested or of any rejoicing by Satan after Jesus was put to death. Take a look at your Bible in Matthew 26:36 - (this is the account of what happened that evening).

To your question though - Why is he “deeply grieved, even to death”? Is he backing down from his decision to die and provide the ransom?

Jesus is not appealing to be spared from death. Even the thought of avoiding a sacrificial death, once suggested by Peter, is repugnant to him.

Rather, he is in agony because he fears that the way he will soon die—as a despicable criminal—will bring reproach upon his Father’s name. He now senses that in a few hours he is going to be impaled upon a stake as the worst kind of person—a blasphemer against God! This is what sorely troubles him.

When Jesus prayed during the night He was arrested, it only mentions that He was in great distress and his sweat was like drops of blood. It doesn't mention the devil at all.

When Jesus was crucified, there is no mention of the devil celebrating.

It is likely that you are hearing what others have told you, or have read some extra-biblical account.

I believe that there are two parts. On the night he was arrested, he was praying in the garden to his father (GOD) if that it was at all possible to remove this burden from him. But knowing what was to happen to him he asked Father "let your will be done, not mine."

During the time Jesus was fasting in the desert (40 Days & Nights, prior to his arrest) the devil tempted him with several things to which Jesus denide the devil and was adminsrterd to by angles.

Nikki. It doesn't Has never, will ever say that in the Bible. Why are you wasting your time asking this? You aren't a Christian. And from reading the answers you've given to people on here you sound like an evil little ***** who needs some discipline. I don't think it's right that you would ask questions about Jesus unless you are serious about them. By the way, these things you have probably read in other books or from word of mouth. They aren't from the Bible.

I searched the Bible for the passages you referenced and was not successful. The gospels do not mention Satan in Gethsemane or throwing a party at Calvary.

I will mention this, however. Other passages speak of Satan tempting Jesus, trying to get him to sin. From these I would infer that he was very aware that Jesus came to pay the penalty for sin.

What I agree is in the bible:

"the night Jesus was arrested, he was praying and was in great distress"

What I believe is implied, but not recorded:

"the Devil came to him and tempted him not to go through with it."

What is not in the bible and I believe is NOT implied:

"Devil was glad and like, threw a party over his death"

I'm not sure if you got that the Devil partied over Christ's death from the Bible you might want to check that again.
