Katrina. I never asked for you to put the bags of leaves in the curb but to see if Vanessa did as supposed.Complain to Vanessa about giving thanks or next time let her deal with her problems and teach her a lesson. I can see that in your busy schedule your mother doesn't fix anymore. I know that I lost you on Sept 17 Th 2004.( the day I moved out) The person who write these letters isn't the daughter I had.
You say you don't listen when when many times I don't understand you. Just remember this hearing loss is inherited passing thru the mother to daughters and sons, I did hear much better when i was your age. But what comes around goes around. I did not call last night because we arrived too late after 16 hours driving ,the last three in one heavy thunderstorm. I'm sorry to bother you.
I have the things from Spain if you still want them.
Love, Mother

well, from what my mother told me is that she was given some medicine when she was young to her ear and she was allergic to it and she become deaf. When I mean deaf I mean partially, she has a cochlear implant to help her, but she can understand me, she just doesn't want to.

Your children will probably NOT be deaf but I say that is the least of your problems.
Your mother is over reacting to the situation of you moving out and is having a hard time respecting you and the two of you need to work on your relationship. Counselling can be a blessing for families.

I didn't understand a lot of what she said or why, but yes, some hearing problems are inherited, but not many. I have a cousin and her husband that are both totally deaf and they have a son with perfect hearing.
My mother has a lot of hearing loss and I am getting some as well. But then it is quite normal for older people to suffer some hearing loss, but I had a career around a good bit of noise.
The other part of the equation is genes. The mother only provides 1/2 of the genes for the child, while the father provides half as well. Now some are dominant and some are recessive, so I think there is very good chance that your children will have normal hearing. But keep them away from a lot of loud music!

Has it ever dawned on you that your mother is right?
She just might not understand you becuase of her deafness?

Shes your mother, many people don't have a mother or they have died. Be patient - she is deaf. You obviously need to make more of an effort to communicate with her better.

Oh, and yes, deafness is hereditary. If you have childre, there is a low percentage change they will be deaf - PROVIDING that is why your mother is deaf. If she became deaf due to an accident or something..no, your children will not be deaf.

She is "whiney" about "the day you left" because you probably don't call enough. She's your only mother, make some time to include her in your life.

your mother seems to be having a hard time adjusting to the fact that you moved out and have children of your own. Perhaps she's hurt and that's the way that she is responding but you have kids now to worry about and kids to be a great mother to so worry about them. If it bothers you then let her know but dont give it as much thought. It does suck but really..your kids are the ones you should worry about.

Deafness *is* inherited, however, I don't feel that they'll go deaf until later in their life.

Um, your own children will be deaf? I think she's speaking figuratively here, not literally.
