I just so happen to be athiest and those who know this are prejudice against me. I have no problem with people who believe in a god, I just choose to be different. I have my reasons to be athiest, so why then are people so prejudice? The way I feel, we're all athiest if you think about it, I just choose to take it one god farther. So what's the big deal? Should I be prejudice against those who believe in god? I try to respect other people's choices and decisions, why can't people just repay the honor and let me live my life the American way?

Before you discriminate against me...I have very, VERY good reasons to be who or what I am...maybe you should hear things from my point of view before you go drowning me with your racism. I'm American and have a right to be what I want to be.

Because it's still socially acceptable to discriminate against atheists. Atheists are viewed as a threat to the Christian - American way of life. "If the atheists have their way," they think, "we won't be able to pray to God or have a religious wedding or bar homosexuals from employment at our businesses".

It is assumed that atheists have no sense of morality and therefore can be marginalized, treated as sub-human and unworthy of equal treatment and equal consideration.

Prejudice is defined as: An adverse judgment or opinion formed beforehand or without knowledge or examination of the facts. These people are not being prejudiced because they have examined the facts before judging you. It is perfectly reasonable for a religious person not to respect an athiest. Someone who denies the possibilty of a power higher than himself is being egotistical and narow-minded. The world is a big place. Do you think you are the best there is? Furthermore, denying the existance of God who can punish people for their misdeeds leads to moral degredation. If I can get away with being bad, why shouldn't I? This allowed the Nazis to unabashedly attempt genocide. They thought no one would punish them.

Derek, most people don't have many atheist friends. I was totally ignorant of atheism until I started participating here. The fundamentalists on here would drive any sane person away from God.

I found out that, while I personally believe in God, I can understand why anyone would question His existence. It cannot be proven either way. Give people time. Many will accept you as a logical person. The ones that do not, are not worth knowing anyway.

I don't have any prejudice against atheists. I am a Christian. And I think Christians that hate atheists need to polish up, and read some more scripture. Doesn't the Bible tell us to love our neighbors?

Matthew 5:44 says:
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Now, atheists may feel that Christians hate them or prejudice against them. That is because someone who tells you about the love of God doesn't say that you are wrong, and you're going to burn in Hell. They are telling you that you have an option. If you really don't want to hear it, just say so. But know that we will pray for you. Because you get a choise, the decision is yours, make the wise one.

I agree with zero cool. I am a christian and my husband is an atheist. I don't try to change him and doesn't try to change me. I know that I will go to heaven (or a better place) someday. I truly do not believe the big bang theory could create feeling inside us so to me there is someone or something bigger than us out there watching us..My husband believes it's aliens..lol..let him have it.

Because the preacher man tells them every Sunday about how you kick puppies and eat babies.

What part of the country are you in? Not on a coast I'm guessing.

here is a link to someone that does agree though. Somewhat. We are the enemy, but this person is taught to love us anyhow.

Fear. Ignorance. Intolerance....and misunderstanding.

now...stop complaining about it, and SHOW ppl that your not bad. the biggest reason Christians and other theists "dis-like" us atheists...is because they don't UNDERSTAND us.
educate them.

my best friend is a theist. we ask each other about our beliefs all the time. yes, we disagree about many issues. but we know each other very well.
