Do these people think I am not aware of religion and that I am a big boy now so if I wanted to join could find them? Why do these people feel the need to do this? I don't get Catholics, C of E, Jews, hindus or Muslims coming round to try and get me to come to their religion, so why these people?

Yep you're dead right. I always say I'm Jewish. I'm not, but they know that you're born into the Jewish faith by blood and you're not going to change for nothing or nobody! They walk away then. I saw my mate do it once and my chin was on the floor! I've done it ever since and it really works.

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to get a householder to "be aware of religion". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

A variety of reasons.
0ne of which is that they believe they are the only ones with the truth and feel that they ought to share it.
Another is that they expect to earn 'Brownie Points' by the outreach that they do.
Some more orthodox Christian groups also try to evangelise, but they do not insist that they have the whole truth. (eg a Methodist accepts an Anglican as a Christian, but a Jehovah's Witness or Mormon thginks that no-one else is right)
If yiou are convinced that you alone have all the truth ikt is virtually cetrain that you are wrong.
Just be polite but firm with them. And don't buy their literature, it only encourages them

one of those motives. 0ne of that is they imagine they're the purely ones with the reality and experience that they could percentage it. yet another is they assume to earn 'Brownie aspects' with the aid of creating use of the outreach that they do. some more desirable orthodox Christian communities also attempt to evangelise, yet they do no longer insist that they have got the finished fact. (eg a Methodist accepts an Anglican as a Christian, yet a Jehovah's Witness or Mormon thginks that no one else is solid) If yiou are effective that you on my own have each of the reality ikt is basically about cetrain that you're incorrect. actual be nicely mannered yet agency with them. and do not purchase their literature, it purely encourages them

Be thankful that they are not coming through your windows or forcing your doors to open. When someone knocks on your door, it means they respect your home. They just have what they think is a good news that they want you to hear. Your kindest way to decline is always understandable.
Those that do not do it may already have the members enough not to gather more or were not setup for that kind of sacrifices. If you look at them, they are doing that at the expense of their time with their immediate family.

Its their way of evangelising. I guess they looked at statistics for double glazing reps and thought they would give the same method a go!!

I actually enjoy their visit because its fun to share some of the miracles Ive seen and experienced, especially when they discover Im not jahovas witness just spiritually connected!

Still we all have our journey and 'grace' means accepting each others individuality - at least with jahovas witnesses we can see what we dont want - no offence guys!!!!! (its just not everyones journey)

Jehovah's Witnesses follow Jesus' example to preach the good news of God's Kingdom from house-to-house. (Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20) As you yourself pointed out, other religions are not following Jesus' commands in this regard.

Jesus foretold for our day this work: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.” He also instructed his followers: “Go . . . and make disciples of people of all the nations.”—Matthew 24:14; 28:19.
When Jesus sent out his early disciples, he directed them to go to the homes of the people. (Matthew 10:7, 11-13.) The apostle Paul said regarding his ministry: “I did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and from house to house.”—Acts 20:20, 21; see also Acts 5:42.

The message that the Witnesses proclaim involves the lives of people; they want to be careful to miss no one. (Zephaniah 2:2, 3. ) Their calls are motivated by love—first for God, also for their neighbor.

A conference of religious leaders in Spain noted this: “Perhaps the churches are excessively neglectful about that which precisely constitutes the greatest preoccupation of the Witnesses—the home visit, which comes within the apostolic methodology of the primitive church. While the churches, on not a few occasions, limit themselves to constructing their temples, ringing their bells to attract the people and to preaching inside their places of worship, [the Witnesses] follow the apostolic tactic of going from house to house and of taking advantage of every occasion to witness.”—El Catolicismo, Bogotá, Colombia, September 14, 1975, p. 14.

But why do the Witnesses call repeatedly even at homes of people who do not share their faith?

They do not force their message on others. But they know that people move to new residences and that the circumstances of people change. Today a person may be too busy to listen; another time he may gladly take the time. One member of a household may not be interested, but others may be. People themselves change; serious problems in life may stimulate an awareness of spiritual need.—See also Isaiah 6:8, 11, 12.

Noah preached to people as well as building the Ark. He warned them of the consequences of not listening to God's warning. He invited them to come on the Ark.
Did they listen?
Obviously not.
The rest is history.
That's why Jehovah's Witnesses go around preaching to people - to warn them of what is to come. We are now living in the last days of this wicked system (2 Timothy 3:1-5 & Matthew chapter 24)
They do this because they love God & people, they want them to be saved when Armageddon comes.

Maybe you ought to listen to them sometime instead of asking questions that invite biased answers from people who frankly dont know any better.

Matthew 24:36-39

Because these people must obviously care enough to go out of their way to try and reach everyone they possibly can before the end comes.

Matthew 24:14: "And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

Matthew 28:19 & 20: " Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”

Notice the first word of the preceding Scripture...GO, a verb meaning ? GO...followed closely by the verb make. Next verse starts with the verb teaching. I can't speak for Mormons, but being one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I can speak for myself.

Romans 10:13-15: " For “everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved.” 14 However, how will they call on him in whom they have not put faith? How, in turn, will they put faith in him of whom they have not heard? How, in turn, will they hear without someone to preach? 15 How, in turn, will they preach unless they have been sent forth? Just as it is written: “How comely are the feet of those who declare good news of good things!”

2 Peter 3: 9: "Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with YOU because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance."

Isaiah 43:10-12: "YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may know and have faith in me, and that YOU may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. 11 I—I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior.”

12 “I myself have told forth and have saved and have caused [it] to be heard, when there was among YOU no strange [god]. So YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “and I am God. 13 Also, all the time I am the same One; and there is no one effecting deliverance out of my own hand. I shall get active, and who can turn it back?”

So the point is, it is our job as witnesses to get the word out so that no one alive now can say they didn't have the opportunity to hear it. What you do with what you hear or don't hear is on you, but at least we can say we tried.
