When I bought the comp, it had Windows ME installed on it. A few years later I upgraded to Windows XP Pro. Now, I've used the original disk that came with it (ME) to reformat back to the old OS before, but now when I try it, I get this error message. I need my old OS (ME) so that I can use a spreadsheet. (I'm sending out Christmas cards, and need it for the label setup.) When I upgraded to XP, it didn't install any of the business tools like Excel, Access, etc. I've backed up everything... I just want to wipe my comp clean and start over. For some reason, it's not recognizing my comp as an HP. Can someone please give me directions on what to do here?

I'm sorry to hear that. I cannot really help you with this question.

However, if you do go back to Windows XP, you can download OpenOffice. OpenOffice is a program (or collection of programs) to replace Microsoft Office. You can get OpenOffice from http://www.openoffice.org

My Windows XP didnt come with any business tools either. Just another way for Microsoft to try and squeeze money out of us.
