My mom made chili awhile ago, and canned it (in a mason jar with a sealed lid). It's been in my fridge for at least 3 months. Is it ok? I know you can buy chili in a can from the grocery store...so I was wondering if this would be the same kind of thing?

If it wasn't opened, and the lid pops when you open it, you should be fine. Give it a whiff too...
As for the other answerers, how do you think the stuff in the store sits on the shelf? Geesh!

You know what they say, "If in doubt, THROW IT OUT!" I do & would. You can also call your Mom & ask her. If she's been making it & sealing it in jars like that for years & never has had a problem with eatting it in so & so time frame... Well, there you go. Mom would know best! :)

If your mom used proper canning methods then it will be good. If not, then watch out! Hopefully your mom used a pressure canner and did not use the outdated and old fashioned and unsafe boiling water method. Pressure canning is the only safe way to can as per the FDA.

Sure it will be good if your mom canned ti right..and I'm sure she did...it will proble be better now than when she cooked it. Chili is always better the second time you eat it.
