There are several rescue groups that will take your dog and then try to find a good home for it. Look on petfinder.com and look for your breed, you should see local rescues that you may be able to use. If you have a mixed breed and cant find a rescue that will help try craigs list or postaroo. Just be carefull and ask a lot of questions of the people who will take your pet. A good question to ask is "Who will your vet be?", If they already have a vet picked out chances are that they will be good adopters.

You could try putting your up for adoption on craigslist.org under Pet's. Or contact a rescue shelter for dogs in that area. Place an ad in the paper under pet classifieds. Good luck!
