'Religion (or lack of) and politics have never mixed well...' - basically, nothing mixes well with politics?! If political figures cannot be atheist OR religious, what does that lead us with?!
I don't think that there is any need for an Atheist party. In the UK, I am relatively happy as our government is not incredibly religious. I accept that Tony Blair has made his mistakes, but I don't think a definitive Atheist party would do any better. It's all down to the people in the party, in the end. The person, not the beliefs. I mean, hell, Communism sounds good in THEORY...!

I believe atheists have had a political party. Look at Hitler's Germany or Stalin's Russia or Mussolini's Italy. Who's philosophy did they follow? Friedrich Nietzsche, who is the author of "God Is Dead". It doesn't get more atheistic then that...

Religion (or lack of) and politics have never mixed well... so no, for the same reason that each religion doesn't have their own political party. They'd never be voted in anyway, due to the sheer statistics of athiests vs. believers, and probably how many of each actually vote. Just an opinion...
p.s. zero cool - are you complaining about athiests being discriminated against? Look back at history and see how long Christians were discriminated against....

No way. Look, the two things people get the most extreme about, the most upset about and the most fired up about are...(drum roll please):
Religion and politics.
Mixing the two is just not a good idea. It's like mixing nitro and glycerin.

Without established moral standards, any political party is only a flick in the dark!

I am atheist and I would not vote for any party only because it is atheist.

As far as I know athiests are not an organized group, they are simply an educated group who think for themselves....but yes, they should have a political party.

Atheism is the religion of the nonbeliever. I believe in separation of church (synagogue, mosque, etc) and state. Atheism would just be another special-interest neo-political religious group. Religion should not be mixed with politics.
