No. Don't torture yourself, sweetie! It has been too long.
If he was fine, he would have come back by now.
If he had been found and had an i.d. of any sort, you would have heard and still might do so! I had a missing cat returned to me 6 months after he went missing because he had my phone number in a locket on his collar. He ended up miles and miles away and a kind lady began to feed him. It took her ages to be able to touch him. She wanted to remove his collar because he was so skinny, it was very loose and she feared it was a danger to him. What she thought was just a bell happened to hide the important information, and I got him back. I thought it was a miracle! And so it could be in your case too.
If he had no I.D. and is still not back, he has probably made a great new home for himself somewhere else.
You did all you could in the critical months; you can't do anymore now.
Look into your heart.
Do you believe he is dead and gone, or is there some hope there still?
Whatever you find there, have a little ceremony for the one or the other. Your cat will appreciate it, and you will be able to let go easier.
There are miracles happening all the time. You take a rest now. If one happens, it will be the best present for you ever!

Oh Sweetheart, I do feel for you. There is a very small chance that he is living somewhere else. You knew him. If he came home every night / day then he is probably dead and mostly by cars. I am sorry. He will have died quickly, you will grow to accept it given time. Even if he has found a better home as unlikely as that is he is unlikely to return.
When you are ready and you feel like getting another cat or kitten, you should consider getting a female. Female cats or kittens tend not to be the wanderers that tom cats are. They cost more to spay as kittens and it is probably expensive having identification chips put into their necks (remember not everyone finding a cat has the necessary equipment to read a silicon chip), it would be money well spent to avoid this harrowing experience again.
Take time my dear, have a good cry and you will eventually get over it.

How sad. I once had a cat who went missing for 4 months and then one day had a call to say he'd been found. Was so excited i forgot to get the proper address of the house, so we had to go door to door til we found him! Silly thing got run over a little while afterwards. Dont give up hope.

Have you seen him at all since? If not, then I'm really sorry then I'd give up. Hopefully, he's probably living elsewhere - better that than the other option :-(
Did you have him microchipped? If you did, report him to the chipping company, and let all the local vets know. Also, ask around the vets - one of them may have treated him for an injury or illness. Put some posters up with a picture of him if you've got one.
Good luck. xx

Don't think its the end of your cat. Male kittens often go roaming before they settle. It seems that Male cats choose their owners, or maybe its the owner's house they choose, we can't be certain. I have lost 3 this way and found them later several blocks away and attached to a new home.
This behavior settles once they are neutered, and though Females are more content, I still prefer the personality of a good ol' tomkat.

Cat's have a remarkable sense of direction. They rarely get lost. They do sometimes move or get shut in vehicles and taken too far from home. I think by now you cat is either not planning to come home or not in a position to. I'm really sorry, I know exactly how this feels.

Cats are very independent. One dinner and they are anybodys. You cat has probably found a more comfortable home with a new owner. It will find YOU when it wants to.

When it was hot.......and people were driving fast with the top down on the car, music blaring and generally not paying attention to the roads. Probably not worth it sorry. Now you know what to ask Santa for!
