Well said: I am a Christian and I have checked, and I did not like what I saw!
Hence 'brainwash Christians' who can only quote the bible' (there are those who can think for themself, and they do NOT believe everything they read), yet they only quote what suits them. Those drive me around the bend. If you give them a verse that contradicts what they like to believe... SIELENCE!
Constantine had the bible written for political purpose, and he was not Christian. He just pretended to be one...His family had him babtised on his deathbed (to ensure he goes to heaven) when he could not object to it anymore.

Good point. I have checked it. I found errors. But there are 2 kinds of errors : (1) those that are 'natural', meaning they do not change the truth of the entire Bible--e.g translation, errors in date (2) those that make the whole book erroneous.
I have found only error no. 1.
On the other hand, I have checked the Biology book of my kid and it talks about evolution. I found out that it contains forgeries (e.g the horse series, Piltdownman), and fantastic claim of accuracy--for example the dating method. I searched from reliable sources that present dating methods are inaccurate, yet the biology book of my kid says it is accurate.

Yes, if I take the Bible to be my book.(born into it).
I find the Bible to satisfy your hypothesis, taking into account the council of Nicea as a prime example of manipulation for political ends.
I will be checking some things regarding the Koran, for example, as I had understood it to have been directly written from Mohamed's dictation, I'll have a better idea about that tomorrow. Anyway, that can also be interpreted to be acted upon, in so many ways, regardless of its proven provenance.
Yes it's silly, yet worrying.
Give me some charisma, and the Church of the Holy Haddock could yet rule supreme.

Oh, yes, many very highly educated people, who can read, write, speak ALL of the original languages of the Bible have checked the authenticity of the Bible, its history and translation process. Why don't YOU do some research on your own and see?

Excellent question. I myself have always wondered why Christians do not learn to speak the language the bible was written in, rather than using a poorly translated and revised copy.
