AD means Anno Domini (Year of the Lord).

If AD meand after death, what would you call those years between 0BC and 0AD? According to Christian teaching, that'd be a span of 33 years.

That is the simplest answer. Prior to the calendar as we know if today, years were measured by the king's reign(example: the 6th year of Henry I and so on). A certain monk realized that when kings died they and thier kingdoms were sometimes forgotten and he created the calendar to reference BC and AD (Anno Domini) which means "In the Year of the Lord" because the Kingdom of Jesus will never pass away.

I believe you are right--if you have to call a pastor and then you'll know for sure. That's what I have been told it means all my life.
