go to where you got it pierced and ask for them to look and if it's infected they'll give you a solution to clean it with....

if you can't do that go to a drug store and ask someone there...

just wash it with soap and warm water..but NOT antibacterial soap because that'll irritate it..also if you can use unscented soap.

You know your belly piecing is infected if when you squeeze the opening and puss comes out. The skin around the opening is red and swollen.

take a q-tip and roll it in antibacterial soap. Roll the q-tip with antibacterial soap around the opening and on the post of the jewlery you have in. Slide the post in and out of the opening to get the soap in the hole itself.

Repeat this process at least 3x per day until the swelling, puss and redness go away. Should be about 2 weeks.

To prevent it from reacurring, try not to wear clothing that hits you right at your piercing. If you must (as in a uniform) place a bandage over the piering to prevent direct rubbing.

If you regularly have an infection issue, perhaps the piecing isn't suited for your lifestyle and I would recommend allowing it to close.

Go to the doctor! Call right now! Since I don't know the severity of your infection, that's the only advice I can give. If you think I'm being reactionary, try searching for some piercing infection horror stories on the web... you never want to let a piercing get more infected than you can handle...

i have piercings that get infected from time to time. i know it will be difficult to since it is your bellybutton, but you should soak the piercing in some warm salt water for a good 15 mins several times a day. you can purchase saline from the store and spray the piercing with saline every few hours. wear loose clothing until it heals. if it is badly infected you will need to see a dr for antibiotics.

You should go to the person who pierced it and have them check to make sure that's the case. Do not take out the jewelry. The piercer will able to give you advice and based on your cleaning habits may just have you adjust that.

If it is indeed infected, you will want to get some antibiotics since serious infections don't clear up well on their own.

Whatever you do, don't take the piercing out until you've had it checked out by your piercer, or by a doctor.

Taking the piercing out makes it possible for the wound to start to heal, which could trap the infection inside.

Keep it clean until you talk to a professional who can tell you exactly what needs to be done.

Make sure it is clean. Try putting peroxide on it and then neosporin. There is a solution you can get when you get your ears pierced that might be helpful. Peroxide is useful if there is drainage, otherwise it could be damaging the the healthy skin around the area because it eats away healthy skin cells as well as the yucky stuff. If there is any red streaking around the area then get to your doctor pronto.

Go to the doctor! I've had a few body peircings, and instead of using Betadine on them I always used Bactine - it healed faster, didn't stain and I never got an infection.

I would have it checked by a doctor or the piercer.

Otherwise I would just use Satin Therapeutic Skin Cleanser which you can find on steelnavel.com. I use it on a regular basis and my navel has never been infected.
