You should apologize to him, and be nice to him today, if you want to keep him. This is still about you being a **** to him last night, not him breaking up with you for it. If you want to keep him, you will do what you know you need to do.

Well, it depends. Have you ever had drinking episodes in the past? If so, how many? You know there is a saying that the truth comes out when your drunk. If this was the first time this happened, maybe he was just upset that you were the way you were towards him. I think you both need to compromise a little bit. Maybe you could watch how much you drink and put a limit on it while your around him. I definitely think you should work it out. 5 years is a terrible thing to waste over getting drunk. Is drinking worth your relationship? Good luck on the decision.

Well if you were by your own admission a total ***** then it's a question of degree. You may have, albeit unwittingly, really hurt his feelings. He could have a really good reason to feel he wanted to end it, until he cooled off and really thought about it. Five years is a long time in any relationship.
If he tries to hold it against you though, like as if this was 'strike one' rather than an over-blow of passions on both sides, then I would have to say this might not be a promising relationship.

He may have been looking for a reason to break up since he was so quick to do that after 5 years of being together. Proceed with caution...

well I'm not a guy but here in my opion, i don't think its a very sturdy relationship if he wants to break up with you after one little mistake. you should be able to say your sorry for what you did and move on. maybe you should ask him if he is happy in the relationship.cause after 5 years you should be at that level of commitment. good luck!

Do you really think he is judging you? I know it looks that way to you but remember, you just showed him a side of you he had never seen before and he didn't like it. Maybe you scared him or maybe he just doesn't like girl who get drunk and act the way you did. You should question yourself as to whether you think you will do it again especially with him. I don't like ladies who go out and get drunk and act wild and out of control. Do you like guys who do it? Threatening to break up with you may be his way of saying to you in very strong terms, "Don't do it again!"

What did you say to him when you were drunk? Maybe you should apologize to him for the things you said. He might feel uneasy too. Everyone gets drunk and says things. He shouldn't take it personally. You guys have been together too long.

he WAS pretty quick
5 yrs is a loooong time to call it quits for one night.
talk to him about this, there might be underlying problems. he cannot break up with you for being mean to him one night. find out what is wrong with the relationship and try to fix it or he might just break up with you wether you like it or not

NO! If the two of you need to get drunk to enjoy yourselfs; some thing is wrong! If he tryed to brake up with you he wants OUT! So you should bail on him, and fine some one you can enjoy with out getting pastard for starters. You can not spend your life drunk, and you need to get along on the sobber days as well.
