I want to be an engineer or EOD. I want to know, when you join the Air Force, what are the odds of getting the job you asked for? Someone my friend knows signed up for some psycology job and they said they had no job openings and pushed him into infantry. Where can you go to check out the job outlook for a career in military?

The Air Force doesn't have infantry.... I spent my career in the Air Force so I know a little about it. Some things do change but not much. You can find jobs in the Air Force that are similar to civilian jobs. You must work with a recruiter and tell him you will not go in without a guaranteed job or at lease a guarenteed career field. Your contract will list an AFSC (Air Force Specialty Code), do not allow this to be Open General. But I can tell you that when you get to Basic Training, things can change and often times they do, but the closer you get to working with your recruiter to get the job you want. You can also talk live on line to an Air Force Advisor @ www.airforce.com Good Luck to you.

The guy that went from psycology to the infantry sounds good to me
When you join you take an aptitude test. if you score high in certain fields then you have a chance if there is a requirement. If you want to be a jet mechanic you have a good chance

EOD is optional they will ask if anyone wants to do that when you are in basic. Its a pretty stressful job so alot of people wash out of it. As long as you meet the requirements for the job, most likely not color blind, and have a decent ASVAB score, you'll most likely get into the course. As far as CE theres alot of different jobs from, HVAC, Electrical, to Pavement.

3E8X1 is the AFSC for EOD the link below will help you figure out wether they are overmaned and trying to get rid of personel.

What you are asking for is probably not public information.

Please keep in mind your recruiter is a salesman trying to get you to join. If he promises you something that turns out not to be true, you can not sue him like you can in private industry.

The military fills jobs according to their needs, not yours. If they need infantry, it doesn't matter what you think you signed up for.

The military performs an important function. If you feel a patriotic need to join, then please do. But don't have unrealistic expectations that the training you will get will be what you want.
