Gambling is an addiction just like alcohol or drugs. He has to want the change, and if he doesn't see this is a problem ... well, yeah, you guessed it. Unfortunately, you can't "make him quit". You could try a gambling hotline or gambler's anonymous (spelling?) or a local counselor that specializes in addictive behaviors. Good luck!

Right up front....he's sick, and he can't stop until he hits rock bottom! It doesn't matter what game he plays...his need for the thrill and risk has taken over. There are many programs for gambling addiction, but the urgency won't been felt or seen by him just everyone around him. Sit down , talk and threaten if you have to or everything will go up in smoke faster than you can imagine. Gambling addiction is the fastest grown disease today!!! I see it every single day. I work in an Indian Casino 60 Hrs. a week.

Unfortunately, if you keep letting him have the money to gamble with - he will keep gambling. It may not seem like it but you are enabling him to continue with his bad behavior. Kick him out, cut him off and tell him that he has to go to gamblers anonymous meetings for 90 days before he can come back. Then stick to it. Start going to Alanon meetings for yourself. These meetings are designed for the family members of alcoholics - but you will be welcome there. A drug is a drug is a drug. Gambling is no different. It's not about winning. It's about the next bet. He could win $1000 and it wouldn't be enough. The same way an alcoholic could have 1000 beers and that wouldn't be enough. There is a show on A&E called intervention - maybe call that show? try their website. They actually pay to send the person to inpatient treatment.
Good luck. This is really hard to go through.

Im struggleing with gambling at the mo but not casino's. I was doing on site Gambling. I.E the internet sites.. The particular Bookie in Ireland would not close my account so I went into my personal details which they had like your name address and credit card details and I mucked them up. I did it again and again untill they closed my account. Round one to me.. Now I have to try and stay out of the bookies altogether. Its an uphill battle. Im going to be very honest with you. You are going to have to seperate from him ( mabe ), short term or long term , that will be up to him. It takes somthing very precise and very harsh to get him to change. If you do not he will destroy you and your family anyway.. consider it an act of love.. Dont do it suddenly , plan it very carefully. I.E make sure you will not be homeless etc. You will need to make a hugh sacrifice to gain the Benifits from your actions but you will be doing it out of love for him and to protect you future. Also contact gamblers Anno... for directions.. best of luck ..

if the problem is getting to a point where it is affecting your family and preventing you from making bill payments that you had no problem paying in the past, then you need to sit down (just you and him, without the children at home) and tell him exactly what you have posted here.
If this does not work, then you need to get him some help.
good luck

confront him tell him that gambling is a losing proposition.
Its OK to play a little bit I mean gambling isn't heroin but it can become a problem set guidelines on how much he can spend maybe hell win maybe he wont. As long as hes not spending thousands of dollars then its OK let hem play compromise just make him take less money less money equals less problems,
plus he will still have fun and have Chance who knows.

Gambling is NOT an addiction. It's a habit. Plan other events for you and your husband. Develop new habits....Whenever the gambling occurs, take him ....bowling, fishing, out for a drink....have SEX instead!!! Good luck from an old gambler....I still enjoy gambling, but sex is soooo much better ( : Realize that gambling is fun, but loosing is not. Sex is much more addicting, you ALWAYS win, and you'll both be much happier.
