I'm 6' tall and weigh 260 lbs. I don't get it, I workout for like an hour a day on the weekdays and try to eat decent portions but I can't lose any weight. Why? A few of my friends who eat a lot more and don't exercise are so much slimmer.

it could be numerous things. You could have more muscle than you thought or you could have a slow metabolism. What is the size of people in your family? If they all are about the same size you are and go through the same thing you're going through, it could be genetic.
I;d check with your doctor to see.

It is really rare but you may have a defective thyroid gland which causes you to store too much energy. If thats what it is then there are treatments for it. Go to your doctor to get that checked. You might try changing your work outs. I don't know what you're doing but if I were you I would start swimming for that hour each day. If you do that you'll be slim in no time, well, a half year or so anyway, but you'll feel like a new man. A workout that is too much weight training won't be effective. To burn fat you need to bring your heart rate to a certain level (there are websites where you can figure out exactly which level depending on your weight, age, and height) and maintain that level for a minimum period of time. My brother has the same problem. He loves to lift, but doesn't love to do cardio, he's strong as an ox, but heavy set, and he suffers from his image as do you. You can also try having a cup of coffee and going for an hour walk first thing in the morning, before you do anything else. That gets your metabolism up real high right away. You could also try eating 6 small meals a day rather than three squares. Good luck, keep working at it and you'll beat it.

A lot of it has everything to do with genetics. Some of us are at a disadvantage when it comes to metabolism. I know, I've got a crappy one.

Keep this in mind—You exercise for an hour a day, but how hard? Are you increasing your intensity, or doing the same workout day in and day out without changing it up?

Our bodies tend to find the "path of least resistance" which means it will find the most efficient way to perform a task while using the least amount of calories possible. So it's always important to "suprise your body", Try something new for your exercise routines. Change it up! You won't get bored and it will help you loose weight.

As far as portion sizes go, America has serious portion distortion. We think we eat a lot less than we do. Start to write down everything you eat. Do that for a few days and then look at what you're eating. Are you getting enough whole grains? How about veggies and fruits? Are you adding a lot of butter to those potatoes? How about sugar?

Loosing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise. It's a lot easier to not eat the piece of cake then have to work out for an hour to burn it off!

Try this for a month and see if any of the pounds come off. If you've got any more questions, email me!

You may exercise everyday but you only lose weight when your metabolism rate increases. If doing it on your own does not work you may have to get a fitness trainer to assist you. They would tell you what to eat for breakfast because you need to eat foods the will speed up the heart rate and as you cool down you will lost the weight. next you would need some good vitamins they play a vital role in you gaining or losing weight.

It could be the food choices you are making. Your diet may be high in fat, which even if you eat less than someone whose diet is lower in fat you could still be consuming more calories.
Have you taken your build into consideration? If you have big, heavy bones you will not be a small person; you weren't meant to be.
You may need more aerobic exercise as opposed to strength training. Both are needed, but when you try to lose weight you have to have more aerobic exercise than when you're trying to build muscle only.

It all has to do with genetics. God just couldn't bless us all with a good body. Also, you might have hit a plateua in your workout if you are doing the same workouts day after day, I would suggest doing something different to sort of "shock" your body. Watch out for the bad carbs and eat more protein. If all else fails, go see a physical trainer for a week!

Your metabolism maybe slower then your friends or you could have thyroid issue. There a lot of factors that goes into how your body burns fat. If you are concerned about your weight see a doctor or a nutritionist to discuss a healthy weight loss plan to help you shed those extra unwanted pounds.

It may possibly be your thyroid. You could ask your doctor for a simple blood test for thyroid function. If your thyroid is not functioning properly, it may be slowing your metabolism, and causing you to maintain or even gain weight. This is not common (many people use their hormones as an excuse for not losing weight), but it is possible, and if you are doing everything else to lose the weight, it is worth checking into. Good luck!

If you are working out with weights and not really getting your heart rate up, then all you are doing is adding muscle mass and not dropping that much weight. You need to do exercises to raise your heart rate, like walking on the treadmill, stairstepper, arobic exercise, jumping jacks, sqaut thrusts, push ups, sit ups, etc. In order to loose weight you must get your heart rate up and sweat.
