i see a lot of "why can't they just turn christian" posts and whenever i see a post advocating islam, i see it has a ton of thumbs-downs.

i thought the world was more open-minded than this.

I don't believe in hating anyone. However, much of the anti-Semitic rhetoric on Yahoo! Answers and AOL Messageboards comes from the same source. Fundamentalist views of any religion can be questionable, but Hasidic Jews are not going around publishing hate literature against Muslims. They simply practice ultra-Orthodox ideas.

There is a problem with Islamic fundamentalism. It is really about lack of separation of mosque and state in many countries. Fundamentalists support terrorists and questionable governments. Say what you will about American foreign policy, but that is only half of the problem. I can certainly understand that Syrians and Iranians do not like American interference, but they spew their hate towards Israel. Israel is an independent country and a homeland for Jews and not an extension of American foreign policy. They are not colonialists. Some governments support terrorism and believe that by doing away with Israel, they will eliminate American colonialism.

I think there is a difference between C.I.A. interference in Iran and U.S. support for Israel. Many of these countries receive aid and then they turn around and support terrorists. Syria, Lebanon and Palestine are examples of this. I believe the leaders are more at fault than anyone.

I don't think we really understand why people support terrorism. Look at Lebanon right now. How did Israel create that situation? The only reason why America gives so much military aid to Israel is because of terrorist threats, attempted takeovers by foreign countries, the kidnapping of soldiers, suicide bombings, etc. Why blame Israel for a situation they didn't create but simply responded to? Believe me, I am not in favour of this, I just understand it to be the reality of our times. I would much rather see peace in the region. You won't find me supporting Bush in Iraq or Afghanistan. As for Iran, I don't want a war but sanctions may be necessary.

I think that 9/11 caused alot of prejudice in the United States. It's very odd but Americans seem to pick up new prejudices, and develop new hatreds, extremely easily. More than any other country in the world. I'm not sure why that is.

As for myself, I'm Canadian and I don't mind the Muslims one bit. I understand that it's only a militant few crazies that are actually doing those terrible things.

Nope, you thought wrong. Unfortunately the world is not more open-minded than this.
I also see way way too many anti-Muslim posts. Healthy debate is one thing, but what I see is just a lot of bashing that is unnecessary.
I hope the anti-Muslim people come to realize how many really great Muslims are on here, and change their view of Islam.

I'm sure there are some sects of Islam that are quite nice. I like Sufi thinking quite a bit myself, and the Nasrudin stories are a personal favorite.

But the main theological bent of the religion is based on intolerance of others and being a d*ck in the name of the Almighty. I've read the Koran, and it's glorification of bandit raids on opposing tribes just seems pretty grotesque to me. Granted it's no different from Joshua sacking Jericho, but it doesn't scream "holy" to me.

Sure some beautiful art grew out of it, and some sort of ethical system has been put into place, but come on, you may as well deify Attila the Hun.

I agree with you. If anyone looks past the fundamentalist crazy stuff, Islam is a beautiful religion. Try making friends with some muslim people. You will find that they are some of the best friends you could possibly have.

It's America. Americans have too many ignorant racists in this country. Yeah most people on here hate Muslims.

Ignorance is defiantly not bliss. We as a people of all color and background have really come far, bust obviously not far enough yet, when it comes to racism. Take a stand against hate, and over-shower it with love and respect.

It isn't that I don't like them or that I think it is all of the. But I do see hundreds of thousands of them at Hamaas rallies and such. I really do believe that a large part of them wants war with the west and that scares me a little.

I don't like the belief system of Islam, I love the muslim people, though.

There are too many lies within the teachings of Muhammad.
