Without the sun, there would be no life on Earth. Plants need the sun for photosynthesis. Animals eat plant, we eat animals.

Trees need sun. Trees make oxygen, we breath oxygen.

Plants use the sunlight and carbon dioxide (CO2) to produce energy. Herbivores eat the plant, and get 1/10 of the energy from it (because it was used), and a carnivore eats the herbivore and gets 1/10 of that energy. Once again, because some of it was already used.
