The Iranian Parliament recently voted to (re)institute the wearing of distinctive colored sashes/badges for non-Muslims. Jews once again in history will have to wear yellow badges in Iran. The Iranian parliament added a red sash for Zoroastrians (sp), will use the blue sash for Christians.

This is not new. Omar, the caliph who succeeded Mohammed, delineated in his Charter of Omar the twelve laws under which a dhimmi, or non-Muslim, was allowed to exist as a "nonbeliever" among "believers." The Charter codified the conditions of life for Jews under Islam -- a life which was forfeited if the dhimmi broke this law. Among the restrictions of the Charter: Jews were forbidden to touch the Koran and forced to wear a distinctive (sometimes dark blue or black) habit with a sash.

So that the ruler of Iran, Nejad, who has announced that he wishes to wipe Israel off the map, is only taking a cue from the originators of Islam.

I have heard this is true. We are trying very hard to get all the Jews out of Iran. There are still about 25,000 left there.

First of all, Jews are not 'non-believers'. They believe in their own religion, which founded all other Abrahamic religions. Why this notion is lost on Muslims is beyond me.

It is wrong to single out anyone as a target group for hatred. This happened in Germany, obviously. It affected Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, gays and anyone else who was not deemed 'acceptable' by the Third Reich. Iran's government is the Third Reich resurrected. I am not blaming the people of Iran here. American interference through the C.I.A., government corruption, the loss of their traditional society, the Ayatollah Khomeini and his supporters as well as the Shah are to blame here.

I have known Baha'i refugees from Iran while living out here. I must say there is a certain look on their faces when they talk about the Ayatollah, who was seen as an oppressor. He hated Baha'is and called them heretics and nonbelievers. We all know the danger of labelling someone as heretical for not following the established religion. This happened throughout Europe for centuries. The Spanish Inquisition and the dispulsion of the Huguenots, for example.

Peaceful Islam needs to stand up while it can to these Radicals like in Iran now.

Or all Islam will be labeled as bad.

Good Luck and God Bless!
