It sounds very much like severe blepharitis, which is inflammation of the eyelid margins caused by either a bacterial infection, or a skin condition related to eczema. If hydrocortisone cream hasn't worked, its probably bacterial.

The first thing you mother needs to do is commense lid cleaning: make a solution of cooled down boiled water with a pinch of sodium bacrbonate, in a small cup. Then using a cotton bud, use the solution to clean off any crusty bits, loose skin flakes, etc. Do this to both eyes, top and bottom lids. Do this twice a day (with fresh solution EVERY TIME), indefinitely. Blepharitis is one of those annoying things that keeps coming back, so keep this up and it should keep it at bay

Next, ask her GP to prescribe chloramphenicol ointment, (an antibiotic ointment), to use as decribed by the pharmacist.

That should sort it out. Good luck!

*EDIT: Just looked it up, the usual antibiotic cream is actually Erythromycin.

E45 is definitely a no no so if your passing a optician just slip in as these people see a lot of this kind of thing and most likely can steer you in the right direction failing that go to the hospital eye department and just sign in and they will see you

Try Hemp face protector fron The Body Shop. My fella uses it for his excema. Its very gentle and a fab hydrater for the skin with a barrier effect.

it could be excema i suggest using Eucerin you can find it at the local walgreens or wal-mart. Also she should wash her face with neutrogema procucts like the bar soap. I have Excema and thats what i use to keep it under control. both products are mild and dont burn or feel like burning! Good Luck

No idea, but I feel sorry for her. Maybe try and air purifier to keep her skin moist.

She may have eczema. Lotion will help. I suggest Aveeno brand lotion, it's more expensive than other lotion though.

Is she staying hydrated?
