I want to be a Naval Intelligence Officer. I am in great shape, I am a graduate student, I specialize in Foreign Relations and Languages, etc...., I have a clean record, but I can't pass a flight aptitude test. I know that I don't have the aptitude to be a pilot, nor do I want to be. Why aren't military tests set up better? I believe that they could get more quality people if they looked at the person, and not some old standardized test that has nothing to do with the future job.

because Intell Officers have to be able to withstand prolonged periods of time in flight.

Look into Information Warfare.. the two communities work closely together in some respects, but IWOs do not need to pass the FA test.

IWO: can tell what is going on right now.

INTELL: can tell you what might happen later.

A NIO has to pass a flight apptitude test to make sure that their body can handle a prolonged stay in a plane. NIO's are not only stationed on shore commands. There are also NIO's stationed on carriers. AWACS and other intelligience gatherin planes have NIO's on them. Just because you're taking a flight apptiude test doesn't mean they're gonna make you learn to fly a plane. But you do have to be able to handle being on a plane for days at a time.

You have to take the flight aptitude test because you're applying to be an officer, not a particular kind of officer. The Navy needs pilots.

Kinda like the " rifleman first" attitude: The Navy wants all officers to be able to fly incase. Similar to enlisted sailors being sailors before being a Aviation Electronics tech.
