I'm not a religious man or an atheist, just an unbiased spectator. Whatever your beliefs are, there are too many damn people in this world that need to get over themselves. Stop praying for the problems in the world to go away, when it is your structures who caused most of them in the first place. Maybe if you spend less time claiming your beliefs as absolute truth on yahoo answers you could do something to help the problems at home and abroad, I know I do. Just something to contemplate, though I doubt many of you will.

I'm involved in numerous charities, apparently you can not read. I don't just give money; I go out and help people.

Wrong, conservative give more money in what is counted because a lot of it is through religious organizaitons. Most people who really have a heart give just to give. And I guarantee you charity work is not even close, church sponsored or not.

I don't need to worship a god to do good things. That power comes from within myself.
And whoever said the whole world parties while Christians try to save them.
1)I didn't mention the Christian religion.
2)That made me laugh.

What an interesting attitude, considering that the vast majority of all charitable ventures are faith-based. Take away the religious charities of the world, and see how much charity you've really got left. My own church prays, but also helps the victims of domestic abuse, feeds the poor, pays people's light bills, repairs homes, gives out totally free medical and dental care, provides free meals, and so forth. This is prayer in action. Prayer has its value, but as you've correctly pointed out, so does direct action. Both have their own validity.

You know, you have a valid point to some extent. I have noticed that several people I know they can only say well, I'll pray for such and such instead of actual hands on helping. Don't get me wrong I think prayer is vital but, it is not the only thing. The job done right and with love for another person can be just as big of a prayer. Many times I see people who PRAY all the time come up with a real Holier than thou attitude because a person doesn't PRAY as much as they do and I think that is really poor because half the time I have found those people who only say they pray and never actually DO anything are lazy and they just are trying to hide it behind abunch of words that don't mean anything because they are not meant. End of tirade

JETT,
Most Christians go to church and give money, time, labor and prayer. We do not just spend time in prayer. We are doers of the word also. Why would you think that Christians ,didn't do anything to help improve the world.
You must be very young and know nothing about Christians. We are for the most part very hard working people.
While the world parties we are seeking God to save them.
Many Christian Spend hours in prayer after they get off work.
We think it is more important to spend time with God then playing,
say a guitar.
Please note that if all Christian stopped praying, all HELL would break louse.

I agree, we must do more than pray and hope...
“I think by now I have made it fairly clear that I am not very happy with the word "hope." I don't believe in people just hoping. We work for what we want. I always say that one has no right to hope without endeavor, so we work to try and bring about the situation that is necessary for the country, and we are confident that we will get to the negotiation table at one time or another. This is the way all such situations pan out— even with the most truculent dictator.

Because a lot of people truly believe that praying is going to change something. Not to mention, if you were raised Christian, then praying is just the way you were taught to deal with things. God is the source of all, so why not ask Him for some help?
What people fail to realize is that the world is constantly changing, whether they want it to or not.
Just a side note... i'd have to suggest that you not attack people in your question ("Just something to contemplate, though I doubt many of you will."), you'll lose a great deal of intellectual debate to ad hominem attacks.

you're not an "unbiased spectator," you're very much biased in your comments. and why are you expecting everyone else to take some action, while you remain a spectator?
i've been living my beliefs through my native american upbringing, since i was a small child.
i do what i can to do my part, on very little income, and very poor health...while battling an uphill struggle every day...what are you going to do to make a difference in this world besides chastise others???
**uh, are you in law school?? cuz dayam you can argue son. geez, get out and socialize. arguing with strangers is like winning the special olympics...you might get a medal, but at the end of the day....

Wat is wrong with praying? Come on what is wrong with praying to someone searching for guidance, because if you have no one then why can't you have a savior it may not seem as he/she isn't here but how will you know unless you actually beleive in it. Everyone has always debated on it. It says in the Bible. But to man is that enough? Hey we don't even beleive in the Holocaust or watnot. We barely even beleive ourself so we are real sad. We humans aren't as smart as we think. We have no idea so why don't we put our trust in something that isn't seemingly there? At least we can put away some of our problems away with prayer. It is harder for me to do my stuff if I don't pray much less doing all the other stuff to earn a life. I can get my stuff done if I pray and other people's stuff. HE guides me and that is all I need.

Not all people pray to change the world, you know.
Some of us realize that it isnt up to us to change the world, just people in it.
So we pray for guidance and strength, especially when we have to prove our faith by being persecuted.
Jesus came not to bring peace, but a sword (Matthew 10:34). I added the verse because I doubt you ever read the bible, and if you have, you probably skipped over this part.
We are not supposed to usher in world peace.
We are not going to end suffering.
We are not going to save Darfur.
We cant.
So.......
Maybe you should start at home, with your soul, before you try to "save the world"

I don't fully agree with you. For those who pray for the world to change and expect it to change just because they prayed, well I think they're going to be quickly disappointed. I'm not saying prayer does nothing. I pray all the time. Prayer is a way of raising conciousness and energy to affect change after all. But if we don't ACT in accordance, how can we ever expect the change to occur. Prayer and action are meant to work together.
