Both are used, but wavelength is an easier concept and is just really handy to use.

Wavelength and frequency are both used, but wavelength is eaiser to work with because it is more usefull in determining the properties of electromagnetic energy. Just remember, the wavelenght times the frequency = the speed of light. (in a vacuum)

frequency can be converted into wavelength by using the equation, wavelength = velocity/ frequency.
