there are no small block pontiacs!!! a 76 trans am would have a 400 or 455! period!!! 76 was the last year of the 455

in 76 the Trans-Am came with either the 6.6 liter(400 cid) or the 7.4 liter (455 cid) Pontiac design V8.GM didn't start putting Olds or Chevy engines in those cars until 1977.The Pontiac 400 is not a "small" block or a "big" block...it's just a Pontiac,with the same external dimensions as the 455.

in '76 it could have almost anything as GM was playing musical engines around that time , 350's were either pontiac or chev. ,some had that pathetic pontiac 301 , olds 307's or the lucky ones had pontiac 455's . those are some that i am aware of.

Yeah if you're looking at the 6.6L small block 400. Those used to be for white trash to run down the dirt roads on here. (And man were they fun) but now they are actually holding some value in the market place.
