As has been said several times already, no, you shouldn't get her a living animal until she learns responsibility and also how to learn to live with grief when they die. In the meantime, get her whatever YOU feel is an appropriate gift for her. You know her best, so get her what you feel you can afford that she would also like to have, but NOT a live animal at this point in her life.
Good luck to you both!

Well, if your friend won't take care of the dog and as you say, will probably run away and get hit by a car, then NO don't buy her the dog. There are so many now in shelters that are put there because the owners won't care for them. Please don't buy her the dog. A person really needs to be responsible when caring for a dog, obviously your friend really is not responsible enough to care for a dog right now. Be honest with her and tell her this. It may upset her but she does need to hear this from someone before another inocent dog dies or ends up in a shelter because of a careless dog owner.

What kind of stupid question is this? I understand you want to see your friend happy and everything but a person that owns a pet needs to be completely responsible and treat it like you would your own child. You would take complete care of your own child and would not accidently hit it with a car. Only a sick person would get an animal that you knew would die in a couple of months. Don’t buy the dog just to make someone happy, it is not worth it.

of course not, if you know your friend won't take care of it properly and the animal would probably end up dying because of it then no you shouldn't get her a dog. No matter how much she wants it. Think about the dog for a minute, it's a living being too and doesn't deserve to be put in a situation like that.

why not just take her out to a dog park or a shelter and let her pet dogs there? Maybe get her an expensive stuffed dog that looks real, but she can't kill ?
Getting her a dog knowing that it will die is inhumane, and is just setting your friend up for being sad. And u don't like her sad, right, mon?

No sorry, that is the worse idea I've heard today. It's nice of you to think of your friend, but also think of the dog. She doesn't sound like the kind of person you'd even buy a fish for.
She may be a good friend and very sweet, but if she's really careless you are just setting her up for more sorrow.

Are you serious? Why buy someone something they won't be able to take care of nor appreciate. Thats like buying the cutest pet and throwing it out the window of a speeding car.
BTW material things do not make people truly happy... if she is sad find out whats making her sad... you can't just buy something to make it all better.

I do not care how much this person wants a dog they should not have one. Why would you even thick about giving a living thing to someone who as showed they ar not able to take care of it. The dog as rights and one of those is to be kept out of harms way.

If you want to throw away $1000 bucks (if not more such as one of our dogs). You know the answer to your question already. You are not the type to harm a critter, and you would be the one who would feel bad when your friend doesn't take care of her new pet.
Buy her a neo pet...a stuffed animal even...she can pretend it is living.

If she is not responsible enough to care for a pet, DON'T get her one. Think about the well being of the dog, the dog deserves a good home. If you want to buy her something, get her something she doesn't have to care for.
