Let’s say there’s this guy, and you want to date him. But for one reason or another, you don’t want it to turn into a serious long-term relationship or anything…you just want to sort of have a guy to hang out with and casually see for a few months, no major commitments or anything. Is that pointless?

Has anyone here done it before? And if that’s what you choose to do, should you tell the guy upfront that you don’t want it to turn serious?

Yeah it's called college. It works out pretty good because I don't have to have a reason to stop calling the girls.

Why do you ask what casual dating is, then explain it in your post? You apparently know what it is...

...and yes, if you are doing to date someone (other than just once or twice) you should make it clear that you aren't desirous of anything serious or long term...that doesn't mean things won't turn that way with this person, but often times it's unplanned.

Plenty of people who date are hoping for something serious/long-term so it would be unfair not to be up front with someone if you knew you didn't want anything more than someone to have some fun with and go out on occasion (sex may or may not be part of this equation).

I have casually dated before, but typically it was a date here and a date there with different guys...not dating one guy only...same concept though...neither party wants a serious relationship, just someone to go out and have fun with.

Good luck!

You have heard of the term FUC BUDDIES right? Or well that is if you are sleeping with the guy too. Everyone does it at least once.... Guys do it all the time. Dont get down on yourself cuz you aren't ready to settle down but at the same time still want to have some fun.
Just take into consideration once you start getting jealous of him talking to other girls or anything of that nature you need to stop. Thats usually the first sign that you really like them, right?! So watch your own back and make sure you dont let the fling get to a point where you end up hurting yourself.
Oh and YES you need to be upfront about it to him, or you could possibly hurt him too!

Good Luck

NO ITS NOT POINTLESS. IT CAN BE VERY SATISFYING TO BOTH. JUST BE COMPLETELY UP FRONT ABOUT IT AND IT WILL BE JUST FINE.
I'VE BEEN IN THAT TYPE OF A RELATIONSHIP FOR A YEAR AND 4 MONTHS AND WE GET ALONG GREAT.
WE DO ALL SORTS OF THINGS TOGETHER, GO TO MOVIES, SHOPPING, WALKS, AND SEX, BUT WE BOTH KNOW THAT IF ONE OR THE OTHER FINDS THAT SPECIAL SOMEONE THE OTHER WILL BACK AWAY. AND THAT'S COOL.
ITS NOT FOR EVERYONE THOUGH SO REALLY THINK THIS OVER BEFORE YOU JUMP IN OTHER WISE YOU COULD GET HURT.
GOOD LUCK.

As hard as it may be to believe, that's what dating is all about.
It's just that it's usually not normally done these days. Today's standard is wham bam, I'm crazy in love at first sight.

You can try it, but it can be hard to do if you both aren't on the same page. I think open and honest communication is the most important thing!!

casual dating is when you don't want to get serious with that person because they are not the one.

~Yes, I have done it and we agreed on it up front. It wasn't pointless to us.~
