Are (free-will offering) spaghetti suppers profitable?

We were thinking of having a free-will offering spagetti supper at our church as a fund raiser. And was thinking, perhaps I should gather the stats first from others who have done this in the past. Can you please share with us your experiences etc. Thanks!

Spaghetti suppers can be profitable, because spaghetti's so incredibly cheap. However, I wouldn't go with the free-will offering setup, if you're actually expecting to raise money rather than to simply feed a crowd. "Free-will offering", to certain types of people, means "get in the door free". With a set fee, even a small one, you'll at least cover your overhead. Sometimes, our church will have a fundraiser supper with a fee attached, and then charity suppers to which anyone can come without paying. That way funds are raised at times, and the less fortunate are fed at other times, and it's a nice, even balance. And of course, the poor are fed from the fundraisers, too, since any funds raised after paying the overhead go directly to charity.

Can be-just be specific in what you are raising funds for. If it's for a community outreach and help or a missions thing-people tend to give more because it's for God. If it's for a new sound system..not as much. Also try and have some entertainment- like a play, music, or something like that to get people there. Or do it right after Sunday morning service-worked for us.

Say this from the pulpit or wherever you annouce the dinner..Say it is 5.00 a person or 3.00 for kids. but if you really dont have that kind of money then its ok! you can eat still... thats what we have done in the past it works.. or have a sign up sheet and table 2 weeks before and have people pay ahead time and sign up to come.
