You can look up particular personality traits & then see which dogs generally have high, low or medium tendencies to that particular trait
Eg affection - dogs that like physical contact with owner:
Chihuahua, Basset Hound.
Though, looking at the answers given, you may like to do some other research on other sites to see if these are accurate.... I have an Irish Setter - this site says she should have a low need for physical contact - however she loves to sit beside or on my lap if I'll let her .... so it may be that individuals differ.... or the site has it wrong!

Enter the breed of dog you want in Google and on the website for that dog, it will list all traits of that dog. It will tell you everything you need to know about that type of dog.

The frist is the kennel club the second is the American Temperment Testung Society and dose the test that insurence companies used to follow when saying what a dangerous breed are. Now they let the media do that even if they are wrong.

I think that is the one I used when I looked up my dog. She is Treeing Walker Coonhound, I know, I never heard of that breed before either, but it was there.
