My daughter is in preschool. Her class will be having a little something for her at the end of the week. I am already going to send her with homemade chocolate dipped pretzels with sprinkles for the "party favor".

I would like to do something different than cake or cupcakes...ANY IDEAS???

make sure that you can bring home made snacks to your childs school, I am in Minnesota but I know that they do not want home made snacks brought in.

kids at that age love the cupcake stuff.. but my kids always want to bring fruit in with them for their days..

You could do brownies or even a big cookie cake, maybe donuts or donuts holes. As a party favor I would recommend maybe candy or a small toy, Party City has little toys packed in quantity for parties or maybe a balloon for each kid, kids love balloons. The chocolate dipped pretzels sound delicious although I have to say you may even be able to pass them as the replacement for the cake and stuff and just get some like toys or candy.

I hope everything turns out great! Kids love having parties at school because they get a lot of attention from their friends and teachers. Have a great time!

I was a preschool teacher last year and dreaded the birthdays, simply because parents would bring cupcakes, juice, get the kids all hyper, then... leave! My advice would be to find out what unit or lessons they are learning about that week, to incorporate your snacks with a sensory learning experience for the kids. Walmart sells those mini- cupcakes, and sugar cookies that aren't messy to clean up. But fruit still has sugar, and cheese and crackers are healthy. Fruit roll up are fun, as well as fruit snacks. I would ask what the teacher would be comfortable having in her class, as she will be cleaning it up off the floor and their faces!

Check with the school first but you could hire a clown to entertain the class, or some people to do a puppet show, or get one of those moonwalks. The moonwalk, you may have to get waivers from parents because of the liability issue, but if you want something different for the kids that would be fun.

A mother in my son's class brought "spiders" to school it is a little messy but fun to make
1.a box of snack crackers
2. 1 jar of peanut butter
3 a bag of pretzels the stick kind
4 a bag of chocolate chips
spread the peanut butter on one side of the cracker , use the pretzels as legs and top with another cracker and use the chips as eyes, and bring plenty of napkins

I did a different flavor cupcake (it's a banana one the kids go crazy for)... but you can also make a HUGE cookie pizza.

Giant Pizza Cookie
Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup quick or old-fashioned oats
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, room temperature
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1 cup prepared milk chocolate frosting
Red fruit snack rolls, gumdrops, candy-coated chocolate pieces and grated white chocolate
Directions:
1.Preheat oven to 350°F. In Small Batter Bowl, combine flour, oats, baking soda and salt; mix well and set aside. In Classic Batter Bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until well blended and creamy. Add egg and vanilla; beat well. Add flour mixture to butter mixture; mix well. Stir in chocolate morsels.
2.Shape dough into a ball and place in center of Classic Round Stone. Pat dough into an 11-inch circle, about 1/4 inch thick. Bake 14-16 minutes or until light golden brown. Remove from oven to cooling rack; cool 10 minutes. Gently loosen edge of cookie from baking stone using Lift & Serve™ . Cool completely.
3.Using Lift & Serve, transfer cookie to serving platter. Spread cookie with frosting. Cut circles from fruit rolls to resemble pepperoni. Cut gumdrops into pieces for pizza toppings. Sprinkle fruit roll circles, gumdrops and chocolate pieces on top of pizza; top with grated white chocolate. Cut cookie into wedges.

What if you made brownies and bought the little candy canes (not the big huge one) and put a little bit of icing on the the brownie so the candy cane can lay on the brownie. Its a good way to start the holiday seasons! :)

For my 4-yr. old's class, I made big sugar cookies -- about 4 inches across, and I frosted them and my son decorated them with sprinkles. I sent one for everybody, and apparently, they were a big hit. They also traveled really well.

I know you said no cake, but my absolute fave as a kid was when my mom made cakes in ice cream cones, the colored cake cones and pour the batter in and bake them in a muffin tin and decorate, so fun!!!!!
