I found a private seller online that has a car part that i want, he is accpeting a cash offer, and wants me to wire the money to him. We both live in the same state, and he has it listed on ebay auction. I was wondering what is the safest way to make this deal without having to give him the money and not get the parts he promised. I would like some help here the part is 1200 dollars. Anyone have any tips?

see if he accepts Paypal... I'd never wire that kind of cash to someone I've never met, no matter how many positive feedback responses he has.

Go through Paypal if possible the only other/safer way would be to get the cash in hand and drive out there to see it and pick it up yourself.
Just let the seller know that if he wants cash you can meet him but eBay recommends not wiring money ever and tell him you have even gotten screwed before. He's trying to sell a part he should understand. Maybe you can find a way to hook him up with a small depisit to show your good faith in actually coming out the see the part and pay the money as long as it was what he said. But just know that if you wire the money and you get screwed, you're screwed. Not much you can do. Paypal will get your money back for you. And in any case if the seller is honest he should have no problem meeting up withyou as long as you drive the distance and don't make him go out of his way.

NEVER do a wire transfer!

Check eBay's safe buying tips. They warn about wire transfers all the time.
