pick up a concordance, a book, or go on line for a biblical concordance and look for "Onan."

Hmmm....there's the whole Onan thing, but I've seen discussions out here about this. There are some who interpret this story to mean that it's OK to masturbate, but it's not ok to .... well, I forget the exact details. Hopefully those same people will answer again.
But hey, if the Onan story IS the only reference to masturbation, and if it is possible to interpret it in such a way that masturbation is not condemned, great!
Doesn't matter to me, but I imagine there are those who would be "relieved."

Nowhere in the Bible does it say masturbation is a sin. I am so tired of "Christians" saying it is. Please read the web information I have listed for more and better understanding. It would be good for anyone to read...
Note: Unless you have read the web sites given don't give a thumbs up or down...you are only showing that you are afraid of the truth and I don't see anyone else offering references.

Nowhere. The Sin of Onan was not to do with the spilling of his seed but with the fact he was supposed to be fulfilling the command and custom to sire a son for his brother's widow, since such a widow would legally have no defense or support in that culture. By spilling his seed, he effectively denied her support.

in matthew 5:27-29 it says "“You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’[a] 28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 So if your eye—even your good eye[b]—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. "
so by this if you use pornography or any type of pictures or picture someone mentally to arouse yourself during the act then you are it is.
as for onanism the dictionary defines it as BOTH masterbation AND withdrawl (ie coitus interruptus)
EDIT: UNCLE THESIS: read the verse in context "Destroy the desires to sin that are in you. These desires are: sex sins, anything that is not clean, a desire for sex sins, and wanting something someone else has. This is worshiping a god. 6 It is because of these sins that the anger of God comes down on those who do not obey Him. 7 You used to do these sins when you lived that kind of life. 8 Put out of your life these things also: anger, bad temper, bad feelings toward others, talk that hurts people, speaking against God, and dirty talk. 9 Do not lie to each other. You have put out of your life your old ways. "
it is not JUST referring to sex sin

The Bible does not outrightly condemn masturbation.
However, it does speak of it in negative terms and discourages the practice.
Colossians 3:5 exhorts followers of Christ to 'deaden their body members'.
The context is obviously in a sexual nature.
Deaden them means not to excite them.
That is not an outright condemnation, but that's what I said at the start.

It does not say that in the Bible, however it does say that lust is a sin in the bible. So when you masturbate you are sinning because you are lusting. So it is a sin to masturbate but it does not say it in the bible masturbate it says lust. Jesus loves you!!!

Hey - here's a novel idea! Why don't YOU read the Bible yourself? That way you can find the answer, and you won't have to wonder if everybody else is telling you the truth, or not.

Colossians 3:5 says: "Deaden, therefore, YOUR body members that are upon the earth as respects fornication, uncleanness, sexual appetite, hurtful desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry."
Masturbation has the tendency to do the opposite.
