I can understand why people think everything in existance needs to be created, therefore needs to have a creator. But why do people think that this 'creator' is god. (i.e. is an all powerful, all knowing superior being).
Many philosophers over the years have theorised there are multiple creators. They are not all powerful but instead are like craftsmen. They created this world as well as other worlds like ours but better (think of them as better newer versions of the same idea).
So why do you think the creator(s) is god?

Just to clarify here, I'm atheist and don't believe in a creator or creators. Its just a topic for discussion as we were talking about it in a philosphy lecture.

Well I guess I would have to say that first one would have to believe what the bible says about God to say one believed God is the creator. Saying that, I do believe God created the universe and all that it entails. I cannot justify my belief but can only say that all creation has a certain flow to it. By that I mean all things work together to survive and reproduce. The whole existence of this planet speaks of a highly creative being. I suppose it's easier for me to believe that it all came from one hand and mind than many.

Whatever is the source of everything, even of the multiple creators you described or whatever systems are in place, that allness is referred to by the word "God." So your question (to my view) is sort of like saying "why do you think the source of Algebra is MATH?" It is the "source" in a sense but it is more like the whole universal principle behind any given thing. God is to all things as "Math" is to all numbers, problems, fields of study etc. It is an overarching oneness that includes anything that exists. Since it includes both male and female it is not gendered in my opinion.

I think God is the creator of the world and universe because I know Him. I have a relationship with Him and He is the great I AM. Read the bible and find out for yourself.

I like this hypothesis! It's no more believable than the Supreme Being idea, but lots more fun! What if these "creator/craftsmen" are like Keebler elves???!
I still think it all just "happened" and that the idea of any creator or creators makes no more sense than that.

Genesis 1: 1: In [the] beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Philosophers and scientists are a lot of the problem that people have these days with the confusion that they create!
Proverbs 3:1-7: " My son, my law do not forget, and my commandments may your heart observe, 2 because length of days and years of life and peace will be added to you. 3 May loving-kindness and trueness themselves not leave you. Tie them about your throat. Write them upon the tablet of your heart, 4 and so find favor and good insight in the eyes of God and of earthling man. 5 Trust in Jehovah with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding. 6 In all your ways take notice of him, and he himself will make your paths straight.
7 Do not become wise in your own eyes. Fear Jehovah and turn away from bad. 8 May it become a healing to your navel and a refreshment to your bones.
1 Corinthians 3:18-21: "Let no one be seducing himself: If anyone among YOU thinks he is wise in this system of things, let him become a fool, that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; for it is written: “He catches the wise in their own cunning.” 20 And again: “Jehovah knows that the reasonings of the wise men are futile.” 21 Hence let no one be boasting in men; for all things belong to YOU"

I agree with you. There are many Creators... and they all have a Father. There is the One Creator, then there are levels under Him, and so forth.
