by the way, money is no object, he's willing to buy a diamond and thinks this is a good idea though if thats what i want, he said i'm wearing the ring, so he wants me happy for the decision i do.

My own engagement ring is four stones--the birthstone of my parents' anniversary month, my birthstone, his birthstone, and the birthstone of his parents' anniversary month.
We felt it was a nice way to honor our parents and the influence they had on our choice in a mate. They were great models of how great a marriage can be. :)
I say go for it. My fiance wasn't sure at first if it would really make me happy not to have a big diamond, but now he knows it has because there is so much more sentimentality with this ring.

I think it's a nice idea. Remember that diamonds are very hard and most birthstones (besides diamonds of course) are softer. Since this is a ring you will wear every day, a softer stone will show wear. Check out the attached website to compare stone hardness.

Why does an engagement ring have to made of diamonds? Yes, they are an expensive piece of glitz, but it's really the fact that he wants to marry you that counts.
He's letting YOU pick the ring, so pick what you want! I love the idea of mixing your birthstones together in the ring. This way you'll have something that you want to wear that symbolizes BOTH of you spending forever together, instead of the fact that he's willing to spend money on you.

I think it is a good idea. You don't have to follow along with everyone and be traditional and get a diamond ring. I think opal would be pretty, and you can decide if you want only his birthstone, or both of yours. But I think its a great idea.

i'm not a diamond kinda gal so i think its a grand idea to have something different.
how about a wide band ring with both yours and his birthstones as well as the birthstone of whatever month you get married in. have the stones set flush in the band.
birthstones will make your ring spectacular and no one else will have one like yours.
congratulations and best wishes!

Sounds fine to me, especially for a second marriage. I LOVE the idea one gal had for getting a diamond with each of your birthstones on either side - that could always work too!

Opals are very pretty! So are garnets! But I kind of think that a ring set with both might be just a little bit too much. It's a nice idea, but I don't think it will look too nice.
If I were you, I'd approach this very practically. Do you plan to wear your engagement ring with your wedding band, or move the engagement ring to a different finger? If you're going to wear them together, which will look best with the type of wedding band you like? If you're going to wear it on a different finger, which will do you see yourself wearing more often?

Sounds like a great idea. Compromise... Get a ring that has his birth stone as the center stones with smaller birthstones representing your birth month flanking each side of the center stone on the ring, or vice versa.

That's great,! Your thinking out side the box! Kudos to you!
No one ever said (well, except for jewelers) that diamonds were mandatory at a wedding. Both your birthstones will look great and signify even more!!! I am a married man and I think it is truly romantic and speaks volumes of the though and heart you are putting into this.
Congratulations to you both!!!

Why not go for the Diamond with both of your Birthstone on either side of it, that way it represtents your lifes ( birthstones) and path to finding eachother and becoming one in marriage (diamond)
