If I want to give $50 but only have $100 bill, wouldn't it be better to make change in the plate than to stiff God?

What do I say if someone questions me?

Honestly, that is an excellent question. The way I see it, is you are giving to God. It is up to YOU to decide how much to give to the church. Most of the people in church would be upset it they saw it, because they will be quick to jump to a conclusion. If they did not see you put money in, but do see you taking money out, that's a problem to them. And rightfully so. But, before jumping to a conclusion, they should get the facts straight. Other people mentioned some better ideas, but I do not at all believe it is wrong to make change. Now if you put in $20 and took 4 $5s out...then it's a bit silly. But if you are making an offering and only have a larger bill, nothing wrong with that.

You should make change b4 u go to the church, cause it is not right to put money in the offering plate and request for change,it is better not to put at all.

You're are supposed to give without your left hand knowing what your right hand is doing. If you can not do that then come prepared with your offering in advanced. or simply do not at that time but make your offering at another time. I personally do not think its appropriate to make change at the same time you make an offering.

You could have the person in charge of the offering make change for you.

Or you could just give that offering the next week plus what ever you were going to give than also.

The church needs a lot of money. The Archdiocese of Boston for example is bankrupt due to the millions of dollars they had to pay as compensation to the victims of pedophile priests . So dont make change, give it all. It is for a just cause.

It is easier to go to the bank on Friday and get change. I make out a check every payday for 10% so i dont have to worry about those things and can enjoy the service.

I make change sometimes and I manage to change the one dollar I put in into the four dollars I take out. Now that IS wrong. But what you are doing is fine.
