I have a 5yo male chihauhau who will spend all afternoon outside and still come in the house and potty. He is not fixed but at this point I have been told that will not help anyhow. I have a dog diaper for him but am worried that may not be good to leave it on him all the time. Can anyone give me advice on how to deal with my dog? He has been doing this for quite some time and we have tried crating him ect. He is sneaky and we hardly ever catch him peeing. We also have 2 other dogs both male, one of them is intact but the Chihuahua is the only one who pees in the house, the other two dogs do not go in the house at all. My chihauhau has even peed on my son's bed, on the living room rug, on a trash bag that is waiting to go out. There is no regular spot. Thanks for any help or insite.

neutering could still help....it's worth a shot.

I would suggest fixing him first off, even though he is 5, it could help. Secondly, try rehousebreaking him..from the start like he's a puppy. Pick the appriopriate place you want him to pee and make sure you take him there and reward him immediately with a treat and praise when he does. If he doesn't go and you know he should be going, than have the patience to stay our there with him until he does. This could take weeks or months..patience is the key. Secondly, when he's inside the house tie a 5-6 foot leash to a body harness from him to your belt so you can keep a constant eye on him..when you see him act like he has to go, or he starts to lift...walk him out to the approiopriate place ASAP. I do suggest walking him not carrying him out.

If you've had him basically his whole life and he's only done this recently I would look at what's changed to make him want to mark, if nothing than have him checked by a vet for urinary or other health problems.

If it turns out it's health related it may be resolved with treatment or meds. If for some reason your dog has become incontinent though he's still young to but you decide to do the diapers because his condition is permanent than make sure the diaper is checked/changed often. Just like a human baby the dog can get rashes/infections from wearing a diaper improperly or for too long when soiled.

They were right in telling you neutering him will not help at this point. Youwill need to get all unneutered neutered. Even though the other is not marking his scent is still in the house so the other feels a need to mark things as his own to keep the others away.

he is showing his butt for some reason and someone in the house has done something to make him mad and he knows going in the house makes you mad . Chi s are like that . They have real feelings . Our kennel here lost our chi but if we did something she thought was wrong then she would start going in the house and yes it made me mad as hell and she knew it too. so figure out what someone did and that may help. good luck and god bless and happy holidays.

Unfortunately, the best way to break the chihuahua from doing this is to catch him in the act, spank him, and put him outside. Then reward him when he goes outside. You must catch him in the act to do any good in training him to go outside.
