First of all, I think that either person is immature and lame if they have to resort to violence to get their point across or express their emotions. Neither man or woman is excused from that one. However, I do take a different stance on this one and feel that if a woman thinks their big enough to hit a man, then yeah its okay to fight back. I don't care if she's weaker or not, if she resorts to hitting someone, then she has to deal with the consequences of getting hit back. She shouldn't have resorted to violence anyway so why should her actions be excused and ignored on the basis of her gender? It would be a great world if we could all walk away from someone trying to fight verbally or in this case, physically but unfortunately that is not a reality. So I am definitely saying that if and only if it is provoked by a woman by means of actually hitting a guy, then yeah the guy should have the right to fight back. Any other circumstance is inexcusable though...

It's not how well one can punch, but how well one can TAKE a punch.
I don't care how hard a woman can hit, a guy can take a punch better than a girl. While she may mess him up, he can KILL her. It's genetic. Hitting a girl can hurt her a LOOOOOT more than she can hurt him. Plus he naturally has muscles developed that make for a stronger hit. She has to work to develop those muscles. The danger isn't just brute strength either. It's also technique. A guy has a natural way of hitting. It's not generally necessary to teach a guy how to hold a fist and to swing it. Girls generally need to be taught. And there is also a mental component. When men fight our minds become clearer and more focused. Testosterone does that. Women's hormones do the opposite. If they become enraged they are likely to lose control of themselves and revert to the more feminine out of control fighting style instead of the well defined style they might have learned.
And that is just the direct reasons not to hit. In the end women should be cherished because they are the best caregivers. They should be protected. A guy is disposable, but the woman isn't. Especially once they have children.
Everybody hated Andy Kaufman when he started wrestling chicks. He fought some tough chicks, but he still beat them. And people hated him for it.
The proper response to a woman hitting you is to grab her and don't let go. A guy is probably physically stronger so he can probably hold on to her. And that is most definitely NOT mentally castrating him at all. If anything it is reinforcing his strength and physical dominance over her. He refuses to stoop to her level and he can still win by not letting her fight. It is also respectful since he refuses to hurt her.
(And by the way, Women can be arrested for hitting her husband too. Hitting is against the law, no matter the gender.)

I only believe in hitting in self-defence, both for men and women. So, if a woman hits you for no reason, you do have the right to hit back. This is also true for when a man hits you. If more people understood that, we wouldn't be talking about a double standard.

Men don't hit women.
They may indeed need to protect themselves, but that can be done without hitting.
For clarity's sake, I do not define a slap as hitting, it is insulting but not hitting. (I don't mean to imply that it is OK for a man to slap a woman, either).
A woman once hit me in the head with a motorcycle helmet, as much as I would have liked to deck her I didn't. I divorced her.
Isaac Asimov once said that 'Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent'. I don't know if that is universally true, but it seems to fit what I have seen.
My advice, don't teach your children to be soft or hard, teach them to be competent. Competent at school, competent at work, and especially competent at relationships, then they won't have to deal with hitting.

well i am a woman and i feel that if a woman stands up and hit a man like a man the she has every right to get her a** beat. but for a man to put his hands on her because it make him feel good about himself then hell no its not right. i have never understood why its ok for a woman to beat up on a man but people look down on a man for taking up for himself

Since you don't seem to accept that hitting a woman is unacceptable, I really hope you never have one in your life.
But let's look at another example of why you don't hit back:
How many times have you seen, in a football game, Player A instigate a fight, only to have Player B (the original victim) draw the flag?
Yeah. Kind of like that.

Violence is never something to be encouraged, and if it must be used then only in self defence as a last resort.
I believe in self defence and no i don't think its right to hit women, but I'm not going to take it while they beat me to the ground. Anyone who says they would let a woman hit them rather than fight back is a liar or a nutcase.

It is perfectly fine to hit a woman if she hits you as hard as a man would, that is if she is as strong or stronger than the guy. If she is weaker, it is as bad as striking a child because you can physically hurt them very bad. I am raising two boys and I would never say never. But they better judge the situation right or it will be their @ss.
