I was talking to a friend and he said that Catholics have their own prophets. Did they predict that Pope Benedict is the second to last Pope? And that the last Pope is Petras Romanos? What else did they predict? How accurate are they?

You friend is mistaken. Perhaps he is speaking of the Marian apparitions at Fatima and Medjugorje. There were prophesies made at that time, but they are not seen as "prophetic" as in OT Prophet.

What you are referring to is this: About the year A.D. 1139, Saint Malachy O'Morgair, Archbishop of Armagh, Ireland, wrote down a list of Popes. He listed 112 future Popes, each described by a phrase in Latin. There has been increasing interest in this list among Roman Catholics, for two reasons.

First, the descriptions of Popes #109 and #110 match the pontificates of Popes John Paul I and John Paul II to a tee. Second, there are only two more Popes on the list, and the last Pope on the list is given a long apocalyptic description, instead of a quaint and cryptic phrase.

Of course! They are the same "prophets" the Protestants believe in: Abraham, Elijiah, Daniel, Moses, the person who wrote Revelations, etc. Contrary to what someone here said, they were not all Jewish - some were (Hebrews), some were Romans and Greeks.

If we define "prophet" as someone who predicts the future of a people, we can add such modern-day prophets as some of the Catholic saints. Some examples would be St. Bernadette, and the children of Fatima (who many believe, including John Paul II, predicted the rise of communist Russia, and WWII, amongst other things).

Some Christians believe the prophets of the Bible are very accurate, some don't. They did, interestingly, in the Old Testament predict the coming of Christ, centuries before he was born. That is undisputed amongst scholars.

St. Malachy wrote the prophecy of 112 popes in succession in the future. we are currently on the 111th pope. but i have a propblem with this. the prophecy is not in the bible, therefore it is not reliable to me. all the neccesary prophecies are in place in the bible. it foretold the beginning, jesus as the messiah on earth to open the gates to heaven, and it foretold the end, jesus as the messiah on earth to close the gates of heaven. therefore i don't think it is neccesary for god to put prophets on this earth until the very end. jesus gave us the holy spirit so that we do not have to rely on prophets to tell us what we should do.

There are no Catholic prophets. There are no CHRISTIAN prophets, for that matter. The only RECOGNIZED prophets were Jews. Having said that, St. Malachy (sp?) predicted that the current pope would be the second from the last.

Friend I hate to be the one to tell you, The catholic teachings is not anywhere close to the Apostles teachings, they are way off track, & therefore if they claim any prophet it will be a false Prophet, You can not be a true prophet & be off the word of God, The Bible say the spirit of the Prophets are subject unto the prophets, which means no Prophet will take you away from God's word, but only add onto it in a deeper revelation.

The Pope is consider to be infalliable when speaking on religious matters so while he does not typically use the title, "prophet", Catholic dogma effectively makes him one.
