not the root of ALL evil, but I agree, religion in general, has been part of the cause of wars, violence, hatred, torture, and many other negative acts against humanity.
(all forms of) seperatism is the root of all evil.
belief that we are seperate from each other and seperate from the Energy that gives us Life

the guy before had a point about the Civil War, but I'd have to agree that, in general, most wars in "Civilized" times have been about religion, at least in part. The other part was about land.
And these religions did not need to be monotheistic to cause wars; just boneheaded!

No, think of how many wars there have been in Asia over the last 5,000 years. Are the main religions in Asia? The Roman Empire nearly took over all the known world in their day. Do you think they did it with chocolate and candy? Did you know that they weren't monotheist? Your just focusing on the wars that involve monotheist, and I can see that you have an agenda. Pray for Jesus to save you. Accept him as Lord and Savior.

are you serious?
I guess the purges in the Soviet Union were about Monotheism?
Pol Pot was also about Monotheism?
All the conquests of the Romans, Greeks, Babylonians, Assyrians, Phoenicians, and the Mongols???
not to mention all the hundreds of political wars. You seriously need to open a history book.

In short, you are correct. The ego that is inherent to monotheism typically does not allow for rational acceptance of other views, leads to intolerance and there is much evidence of war and oppression being committed thoghout history as a result of monothesism.
HOWEVER- There are those who seek to offer a differing viewpoint, bring people of differnt religious traditions for repectful conversation and to work together for the peace of all.

Yes..WW1 WW2, Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, Korean Conflict, Vietnam War, Iraq Conflict-Well all of U.S... Roman empire didn't believe in monotheism- in fact believed in many gods- they were some of the bloodiest wars. Greeks-same thing... Ottoman Empire same... England and France always went at it-wanting more land and sea ports... Aside from the Crusades-none in the last 2,00 years- it was all about land and power and wealth- nice try- but can't blame war on God- in fact He speak against it.

Yes. Monotheism is only about 4-6 thousand years old. War was quite common before that period. People don't need a good reason to kill each other, almost any reason will do.

The record for most ppl murdered for a belief wasn't done in a time of war, but at "peace" if you can call killing over 63 million faith having ppl in one century peaceful. China did that in the last century. Yes secular humanist China to silence ppl of all faiths and those who were politically against their government. So can we get over our, "unbelievers are better than believers" high and might mentality?

You have to understand that with power can also come corruption and sad to say. Some religions get power and leaders will use that to thier advantage. You cant judge all people who have a religon because of a few crazy fanatics.

there have been tons of wars that had nothing to do with relgion. what are you talking about?
the barbaric ages everything was about conquering. Alexander the great and Rome had nothing to do with relgion. when england thought everything belonged to them it had more to do with money than religion.
the French and American rev had nothing to do with religion, neither did WW1 or WW2
greed and money are the causes for most wars
