I just brought home a 10 week Jack Russle Pup. She seems happy enough and responsive and likes to play. But this is only for a short while...She seems to want to sleep and lie in her bed constantly...is this normal behaviour for a pup...I was kinda expecting a fire ball.... any advice or help apprecitated...

At this age, puppies sleep a lot! About 18 hours per day..As long as your puppy is eating well, it is fine..She may also be recovering from the stresses of leaving her litter, and all the trauma in moving to a new environment..so, just be patient..You will soon wish that she would sleep more!

Congrats on your new baby! Most puppies have spurts of energy, followed by many long naps. I work in rescue and have dealt with many, many puppies, and this behavior is not abnormal. If you find that she doesn't want to play, or is non-responsive all the time, or doesn't have a good appetite then I'd worry. But, even now at 6 months of age, my Australian Shepherd puppy naps quite frequently, which follows short playtimes. When puppies play, the expel a lot of energy, and need to revitalize with a nap. Also, some puppies are just naturally less active than others. Enjoy it, because usually, when they hit their "teenage" years, they're into everything and very headstrong, etc. They may become just like a real teenager! I hope this eases your worries!

I think this is pretty common. I got a new kitten this summer and I used to think he was adorable because he'd fall asleep for long periods of time in my arms and I could snuggle and kiss him a lot. Now he's MUCH more active, and I'm thinking I might have to strangle him....just kidding...but he's really obnoxious right now.
I don't think I'll ever get a baby animal again, instead adopt from an animal shelter, getting an animal that is at least a year old. It's more humane to do it that way and rescued animals always seem so appreciative. Our "middle" cat we rescued and he is the sweetest thing in the world.

He's a baby. He'll sleep most of the time, but being a J/R she'll be that fireball when she's awake. They tire fast after play, eating, exercise until about 12 weeks old.

You'll see her starting to come around much more after that. By the time she's 5 months you're the one who is going to be needing the naps.

Congrats on your new addition

Puppies are like human babies..they're a handful when awake and sleep alot otherwise. Your pup sounds like a normal pup but I would definitely make sure you have a lot of interaction, supervision, and toys to keep her mind active and entertained when she's awake. JRT's are high energy dogs and will require a lot of stimulation to keep from tearing up your house.

10 week old puppies are like doggy infants. They need a lot of sleep. As she gets older over the next few months she should perk up as she will require less rest. She is growing rapidly and her body needs rest.

Puppies usually sleep about 80% of the day. They play in short bursts, then sleep...a lot. If you are concerned though, take him/her to see a vet. I'm sure that its fine though.. Have fun with him/her!!
