For background, I have mostly straight, extremely fine, somewhat dry / unhealthy hair. It is not chemically treated in any way, and I do not blow-dry. I am looking for something to hydrate, to control frizz & fly-aways, and to generally keep my hair looking healthy and "polished" for work.

Thanks :)

Hair serum seals the shaft of a hair giving it a smoother apperance. I sometimes mix hair serum and mousse...it moisturizes and gives body.

Hair serum is usually a silicone-based, sorta liquid. It's used to control frizz and define natural curl. If your hair is really fine you can use it to make your hair look shiner and healthier, but be careful because too much will make your hair look greasy. Frizz Ease has different formulas for different hair types so I'd try their product first. If your hair is sorta curly and sorta straight it will just make that even more noticeable. One of the other cool things about serum is that your hair dries faster. Mousse is normally used for voluming and defining hair. If your hair is very fine, using both would probably make your hair look limp and overloaded with product. If you use a mousse that's not alcohol-based it will leave your hair more moisturized, full and frizz-free. I'd try them both out on a weekend and see which one (or combination) you liked most.

you should probably go to a salon and ask a stylist what they think would work on your hair. and hair serum is wonderful if you get a good one and use it right. it will help make your hair soft and shiny and will help with humidity and fly-aways and frizz. mousse if you are using it to give your hair body then yes they work well together. you can use serum with almost anything or any hair type. but if you use too much it may look oily so if you have naturally oily hair be carful not to use too much. but Biosilk Silk Therapy is a good one and you can use it on your skin too. ther is also CHI and Ban De Terre.

The function of a hair serum is to seal the cuticle and give your hair great shine. You only need a few drops. A mousse is just to give your hair some volume and a little hold.

Serum is used to make the hair soft and glossy. Mousse mainly for styling purposes. I use it to add volume. Use mousse on the roots, and serum at the ends only.
