Do you have to close your eyes? Do you have to kneel? Will a prayer not work if you speak it to god in a normal tone as though speaking with a friend? What if you pray over your food just by thinking it real fast? Are there good ways and bad ways to pray? What is the best?

The best ways to pray:

Three preachers sat discussing the best positions for prayer while a telephone repairman worked nearby.

"Kneeling is definitely best," claimed one.

"No," another contended. "I get the best results standing with my hands outstretched to Heaven."

"You're both wrong," the third insisted. "The most effective prayer position is lying prostrate, face down on the floor."

The repairman could contain himself no longer. "Fellas," he interrupted, "the best prayin' I ever did was hangin' upside down from a telephone pole."

All that was said to tell you that God doesn't want "formal" prayers, He wants prayers from the heart to Him. He gave us a model when He gave us the Lord's Prayer. But that was never intended as a substitute for your prayers, it was just an example of how.

This is a good verse:

Matthew 6:6
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

- God hears us no matter what- I pray when driving in my car sometimes- so of course my eyes are opened. God knows a sincere heart. He knows who are truly seeking Him. But I also love praying in the quiet alone. And then there is group prayer: for it says in the Bible:

Matthew 18:20
For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."

The best way to pray is from the heart. You need no formal written prayer, or anything like that. Body position does not matter. Just talk to God like HE is your very best friend, and never forget to give Him time to respond.

Open or closed...does not matter.
Kneeling, sitting, standing...does not matter.
Loud or soft or silent...does not matter.

It is a realtionship. The best prayer is from your heart. Jesus taught that we must ask with the right motives. We have to learn to pray prayers that are according to HIS will.

Ask God to break your heart with the things that break His. Ask Him to change your heart. Pray for others around you and they they and you would grow more into the charater of Jesus. That you would be an intrament for His kingdom.

The right way to pray is your way. God will hear you even if you only think your prayer and never speak it. He will hear you even if others tell you that you're doing it wrong. God is not as uptight as some of the people who claim to be his voice!!! Thank you God!!!
;o)
My God is the God of joy and happiness and forgiveness and love. Some people believe in a God of wrath who's waiting to nail his creations and roast them for all eternity. That's not my God.

Any prayer that you devote to God is a good prayer, it doesn't matter how you do it. Don't do it however, because you feel obligated, do it because you want to. Everybody has a particular way to pray that makes them feel closer to God, you need to do what makes you feel comfortable.

no, actually the thing about your eyes closed and hands folded was derived so that it keeps your focus on god. if you tried to pray with a bunch of children, let them keep their eyes open and do whatever they want with their hands, how do you think that would work? its just a way to keep yourself focused. if god knows our thoughts, then you can speak to him through your thought. therefore you can pray in your head just the same.

As long as you are following the one true God, rituals are irrelivent, God does not ask us to get in any posture, but I usually get into a posture of humlity(on my knees or standing with my hands raised). Prayer is communication with God, so however you communicate with others do the same with God.

Prayer and any other form of connection or worship of a higher being is as individual as the person. What makes you feel good in this exercise? It is a joyous connection to be encountered individually and uniquely.

ANY WAY--ANY WHERE YOU ARE--IS WHERE GOD IS!!!

YES, GOD IS YOUR FRIEND AND YOU TALK TO HIM
just like you would a FRIEND. HE is your BEST FRIEND---the best friend you will EVER KNOW!!

You can think it fast---the Holy Spirit reminds you- I think- to just ask a 'word' of prayer.

No good ways--no bad ways---AT LEAST YOU ARE PRAYING!!

No BEST way at all--Just keep praying!!
