Quitting smoking can be very difficult because they become almost a part of your identity. I remember a time when i couldn't imagine myself without cigs, but everytime i smoked one i always had that image in the back of my mind of a diseased lung. I quit smoking by reminding myself everyday of what cigs can do to you and that by continuing smoking you are paying for your own death certificate. People seem to believe that they're safe just because they're young, but people can die from tabacco related illnesses at a young age too. I think i remember reading for every year you smoke, it takes 4 years for your lungs to heal. The first week is the hardest! Try going to the gym or working out so you can feel the effect cigs have had on your lungs and do this every single day. After 4 weeks you will hardly have any cravings and you will feel better from the exercise. I quit smoking this way and it's been a little over a year now.
read this or other similar pages on what smoking does to you whenever you feel a craving coming on http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/news/QuitSmoking.htm keep suckers around or gum and do something you enjoy like painting, reading, etc.

First of all, there is no "silver bullet" that will cure smoking or anything else. You have to decide that you want to put them down and then you can proceed.
Go talk with your doctor and ask for Wellbutrin. This is the generic for Zyban. The best way to take them is for 7 days, take the pills twice daily and continue smoking. On day 8, put the smokes down and don't look back. You will get the urge to smoke, but the medication should help, as long as YOUR will power is where it should be.
Cold turkey works only 10% of the time. Good luck and Like I said, YOU have to be ready to put them down before you start any program

I just straight up quit.
However I did use one little trick.
A soda can on my porch with water and my last 10 or so butts. Take a whiff whenever you want a cig. I didn't anymore. Yuck.
Good luck- remember it takes about 14 days to really have all the nicotine out of your system so avoid situations you might smoke in for at least a couple of weeks if you can. Good luck and happy gum chewing! LOL

I was going to post this question myself, then I decided that I should just see if someone out there as already asked.
I really want to quit smoking and it saddens me that I am smoking. I want to thank 69 Mach 1 for posting this question and Twisted Plaything for the website she provided.
Wish us luck!

I quit by keeping small hard candies (jolly ranchers, butterscotch disks, peppermints and the like) around the house and in my car. Anytime I wanted to smoke I popped on in my mouth. A lot of people aren't necessarily addicted to the nicotine as much as they are to the habit of putting the cigarette in their mouth. At first, I was eating a lot of candy, but eventually it tapered off. It may not work for everyone, but it worked for me.
