You need to defer your decision until you have completed a couple of years active duty. Germany is wonderful! Take advantage of your time there and enjoy German and European culture. Also, you can attend college courses while on active duty - The Army will pay the majority of your tuition. Wherever you may go while in the military, it will be a great experience for you. Keep an open mind, respect the culture and customs of your host country, and represent your own country in a respectful manner. Above all, make something positive of yourself. God Bless and watch over you!

I joined the Air Force with no intention of staying beyond the first enlistment. I ended up staying for 20 years and retirement. It is nice getting that check the first of every month for the rest of my life.

How concrete are your plans? Do you know what you want to study, or are you just thinking I'll go to school and see what happens?

One of the things you are facing is just the unknown factor of going to another country for a while. Although I do not know what post you will be going to, use this website to find information about your location. It is the Army A-Z Directory. Just look up the name of your new location and you and your family can learn about it before your arrival.

One thing that I would like to stress is to ALWAYS verbally say you plan on staying in the Army. If you tell someone that you plan on getting out you will not be given as many opportunities for education or training---they'll think you are a lost cause, why invest more in this guy. This happened to me; my own fault.

When it comes time to reenlist you will know at that time if you want to stay longer.

I have never met someone that regretted their time in Germany.
Good Luck!

Listen up Soldier/Sailor/Airman/Marine, Go to school, learn to spell and express yourself while you're still in the military.

While traveling to Germany would be a nice "working vacation", you obviously lack the communication tools to effectively land a job, so stay in the military and develop those tools.

Go to Germany, get an education, and see how other people live outside of the U.S.A. While you're there, please visit Bad Durkheim Wine Festival, Oktoberfest in Munchen (Munich), Dachau Concentration Camp, Berlin, Sachenhausen Red Light district, and 40-Marks Strasser. You won't be disappointed.

Thats a tough question to ask yourself, esspecially since you've just come out of training. I've been in 5 years now, and deployed once and that is the exact question I am working over now. It is very difficult to ask yourself that in the present. Wait until you get to your first duty station, and try out the ARMY for awhile. Alot of people are very gungho when they join and after playing soldier for a while realize they dont like it or arent cut out for it, which is fine. The military life isnt for everyone. If it was everyone would join. You should concentrate now on your short term goals, like getting to your unit, learning your job to the best of your ability and getting rank. Then, after a couple of years ask yourself that question again. You will be in a better situation to answer it.

Take it one day at a time!

I joined the military for 4 years or so I thought....I ended up spending my career there.....You don't know what the future holds so just take it one day at a time and take advantage of what educational opportunities you are afforded. Hopefully you got into a good MOS that will transition well into civilian life. Don't try to figure out everything today. See what opportunities present themselves. Do finish your college degree though.

Everyone that I talked to in the military enjoyed Germany.

Well, first of all I don't approve of joining the ARMY in the first place because war is HELL. But hey, you've ALREADY made that decision; so, I would suggest going to school while IN the military. Why? because you'll just be wasting precious years if you retire after only 4 yrs. :)

This is such a personal choice. Only you know your life and what you need to do. AND, the word "dat" and "da" make you sound stupid. Do you speak to your military superiors using those terms? If you do, I believe the question might be 'moot'. (Look it up).

Stay where you are, and do some hard thinking before you do anything. The civilian job market isn't as rosy as the politicians make it out to be.
