What is the largest breed of domestic cat?

I remember seeing these cats on Good Morning America a couple years ago that appeared to be about the size of a small to medium dog (approx 15-18" at the shoulder). They had dog-like attitudes, were absolutely huge, and still looked, both color and proportions, like a common house cat. Close to 30-40 lb cats. Can anyone help me with this?? They said they were a fairly new breed to the U.S. at the time and kittens ran $1500-2000. Does anyone know what this breed is??

It's the Maine Coon. Very doglike. Georgeous cats. It's amazing how big they get!
