I buy candles. 3 blues, 1 pink, 1 white. I get the lessons from my parish.
During advent, we open a wooden Advent Calendar every night. We light one candle every Sunday and read the lesson.
I treat Advent like Lent, personally, and I commit to an Advent Study. After all, Advent is about awaiting the Coming of Christ. It's about being ready for His Return.

The kids get out their Christmas calendar's (you know, felt with little pieces to stick on/open each day). We do all the Christmas lighting of the house, etc.
We've tried several times to make an advent wreath at home, but have never gotten one stable enough that I want it lit around my 3 and 5 year old (and when they were even younger!)

I don't bother. I think it's alright for the kids but i don't bother, it's too expensive. I can't wait until it's over.
